LOTR Online boss watching Sony's lead with Station Exchange

Turbine executive producer Jeffrey Steefel believes MMO business models will change in the next five years to accommodate using real-life money to buy in-game currency and items.

While Turbine's Lord of The Rings Online doesn't tolerate the 'secondary market' just yet, he said his team would pay attention to developments in that area.

"The 'secondary market' is a huge topic of conversation across the industry, and we're watching it really closely," Steefel told our sister site Eurogamer.net.

"donators" are already huge pain in the ass in L2 private servers. They buy highly enchanted weapons and then kill everyone they can see. No chanche to fight them back.

I can see this becoming quite a big topic over the coming months. Aint got the exact details but for our uk readers theres a program coming up on BBC2 either this friday or next friday evening all about the money to be made from mmog's.

Edit: just checked and it's friday 1st on bbc2 and it's called virtual world, real money:
