Sony got the price of PS3 right, says Guillemot

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said he believes Sony got the price of PlayStation 3 right at launch - but warned a cut will be necessary if the company wants to attract more consumers.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz Guillemot said, "Everybody has to remember that volumes are very dependent on price. I know the platform holders all know that, so now we have to wait for them to see when they want to achieve those numbers."

He went on to observe that PS3 enjoyed "a great launch", stating, "[Sony has] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers. It's just that if we want more consumers, we'll have to have a price that will make more people come in."

By 'the right price' he means that it's a good price point for consumers (ie. we'll find it acceptable.. but just barely), and not a price that Sony is going to lose their shirts over. He's right in his assumption that Sony will have to drop the price down, because right now the price is still the only thing holding people back from buying one. It's still too expensive for the average person to buy.

It will be a fine price in a year, if they are going to bundle a hdmi cable a extra controller and a game.

Funny thing is, most people ive talked to, who have one are more annoyed about the one controller and lack of high definition cable, considering the price.

I agree, I think they should have bundled two pads and the HDMI cable with the 60gb pack. It would have been more palettable considering the price.

I think a headset would have been more useful than the extra controller. Would help encourage more team work on resistance online. Rarely do you get a second controller with bundles so i'm not too worried about that.

Suprising they didn't have an hdmi cable though play.com offer one with their ps3s so if you look hard enough you can find some good deals.
