Ten years ago, Fallout debuted to almost universal acclaim. This RPG set new standards in depth, character development and visual style, with a striking, retro-futuristic theme and a black sense of humor that were unlike any game we'd seen before. The next year brought a sequel, to somewhat less enthusiastic response; two more attempts to capitalize on the success of the original game -- the mediocre Fallout Tactics and the atrocious Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel -- had many fans convinced the series would never again be treated with the respect it deserved.
