GH Review: Lost Planet (PC)

PC gamers are generally very biased when it comes to console ports. No surprises here, as the vast majority of ports end up being stinking piles of dog doodoo. Because of that even the games that would deserve the attention often get overlooked or worse, criticized regardless of their quality. Lost Planet aims to break this tradition, as it not only is a port of a next-gen game that has been optimized for the PC, but instead raises the graphical bar a few notches higher. If you played the game on the Xbox360 you will know that it can look amazing. Now imagine what happens when the DX9 level graphics get some additional make up in the form of DX10 support. Brain melting graphics coupled with some decent gameplay would be nice, wouldn’t you say so?

only downside with this game is you need to spend a lot of money to play it the way its meant to be played. high end CPU/ 8800 GTX.

The way I see it, Lost Planet is just a taste of what we can be done with DX10, my only concern is that when DX10 games progress and better games are made whats going to happen when that $800 8800 Ultra can no longer push the limits and you are forced to upgrade again just to be able to play your favorite games with eye candy turned on, PC gaming is beggining to be the most expensive way of gaming to date, no wonder console gamers laugh at us all the time, we are idiots for spending the money we spend every 6 months or so just to be able to play our favorite games at nice resoluition with eye candy on, I may be going to purchase that Xbox soon, its a much cheaper alternative now that I have actually thought about it!

The only problem with that is the current DX10 graphics even in there immature state totally destroy any 360 title. There are already games that completely bring the 360 to its knees. There is also over a 30% fail rate with the 360.

Been playing Lost Planet on DX10 tonight, wow does it look great even with much of the eye candy on medium/low. Actually, the only DX10 feature I find essential is the motion blur, keep that at all costs. Shooting stupid bugs is getting repetitive but the mechs and the grappling hook make up for it.

Well i dont have an 8800 but i run the game well.. Love it! looks amazing on my new 22 inch
