Sony Sued Over PS3 Cell Chip Technology

Sony has been sued in federal court over the construction of its cell processor chip in the PlayStation 3, as a California company says the parallel processing technology infringes on patents it owns. Parallel Processing Corporation filed the suit in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on July 28.

Lolz. What happens if they win? Sony must recall all PS3s and redesign their console?

Probably just have to pay x amount for every one they make, and then on the PS4 they won't include a CPU.....

I bet it's got them "rumbling" oh wait, they can't rumble anymore

Actually, Sony can use force feedback. They settled with Immersion. I think that's the name of the company. The question is, why isn't this company that is sueing Sony not also sueing IBM and Toshiba who co-developed the Cell w/ Sony. The Cell is based off of IBM's processor.

yeah - they just force sony into paying royalties (retro / court costs too) .... that may raise the price of the PS3 - so Sony would likely come out with a PS4 quicker than planned to eliminate that added / un-planned expense of paying royalties... if Sony looses.... Im thinking an undisclosed settlement - one shot expense for sony is easier for them to swallow Id think.

think it is bs & wont go anywhere. as stated above, sony was a joint developer of cell, & not that big of a participant as far as the actuall hard tech goes.
maybe the suit is over how/the way sony utilises cell in its engine...

they are the one makeing all the money off the cpu, so they are the ones sued

They are not the only ones making money off of the CPU. Toshiba and IBM co-developed the proc. Why would they spend money in a development and not want to make some back?
