GH Review: Call Of Juarez (PC)

I could start this review by complaining how the Wild West theme isn’t used enough in games. Then I’d mention Desperados and Gun as the only two even remotely recent games that touch on the subject. But I won’t. You know why? Because being a Wild West themed game is not Call of Juarez’s biggest attribute. In fact, there were a few moments in the game where I was actually sick of the whole cowboy theme and just wanted to pull out a sonic rifle and start shooting aliens. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Why is that reveiew so late? I remember I played it more than 6 months ago. This game kicked ass. A bit buggy and some minor longshots, but damn I had fun playing it. I'm beginning to think of replaying it.

the DX10 version is relaunched and will be on many peoples radar again that is why.

Ah, I played the DX9 version last year and loved it. The Billy Candle stuff is a little tedious but it only makes you look forward to being Reverend Ray again. Think I might reinstall now that I've got a DX10 card.

Good game, I was very impressed. Wish I had a DX10 card to play it on, it looks great. Like what was said earlier, the Billy stuff got old quick, but it advanced the story, and one he got the bow, it was more fun. The reverend is a great character. I;m a sucker for the wild west, so its quite refreshing.

This game looks really great, but from what I hear the DX10 version is only available in the US..

I feel kinda bad that this game got panned by reviewers and most people forgot about it. I couldn't get enough of CoJ while I was playing it and the flaws, while annoying, were far outweighted by all the cool stuff and the variety of the wild west landscapes.

I played it through and loved it for the most part. But several Billy-missions stop me from playing it through once more. Oh how I wished and tried to really get Billy killed when playing Ray! Perhaps some time in the future with new hardware, unless there's a sequel out by then.

Come to think of it, the worst part about playing as Billy wasn't the sneaking or using the whip, it was not being able to shoot anyone or even some animals! "No I cannot" and "That's not an enemy" says Billy about a million times during the game when I try to kill some creature. If you did do it the game would end...man was that lame.

Just about everyone was trying to kill Reverend Ray so there wasn't so many restrictions on him dishing out hot lead.
