No game development company has an event quite like QuakeCon with the richness, variety and overall history associated with it. While Blizzard has jumped on the band wagon with Blizzcon it hardly compares with a $100 ticket price, is non-annual, no BYOC, and so on. QuakeCon was started by and for the fans more than ten years ago in id's home state of Texas and also our own. In 2007 QuakeCon featured a number of significant events including a parodying of the Doom movie by Austin locals Sinus Show who do a Mystery Science Theater 3000 like event, mocking the film in a ballroom of the convention, $100,000 in cash given out through their tournaments, almost hourly raffles, drawings, and events, not to forget the Nvidia game show competition and the few thousand people in the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer), and id Software using QuakeCon for their biggest announcements, including multiple new games, new id Tech, and more.
