Mass Effect Update: Starting the Adventure @ Gamespot

With a slew of highly anticipated games across most of the major genres arriving this year, Bioware's Mass Effect is one of a handful that stand at the head of the pack. This gorgeous RPG epic--set across the vastness of space--has held our attention since it was announced two years ago at X05. With the release coming up Bioware invited journalists up to its offices in Edmonton to have a look at a near final version of the game to see how the various pieces we've seen in demos all fit together. Boasting stunning visuals, a rich, complicated story that's big on user choices, and gameplay that draws on and evolves the best elements from Bioware's previous games as well as a nod to Dreamcast gem Skies of Arcadia, Mass Effect is shaping up to be the most ambitious title from the veteran developer. After playing through a chunk of the game's opening we'd also say it's shaping up to be one of the best games out of the studio.
