GH Review: World In Conflict (PC)
Read The Review Here
__________________ Playing WiC it is sometimes hard to tell that the game was developer primarily as a multiplayer game. Sure enough the online modes and mechanics are amongst the best, and you’ll probably experience some of the best moments of gaming here. It is the singleplayer that really shines though. The very action paced campaign will give you almost no time to breathe, and even the few moments of respite you’ll get will probably be spent being angry, sad and happy with the on-screen characters. And it will be during these moments that you’ll realize that WiC is more than just a strategy game. After all, when was the last time you wanted to smack somebody up when playing Warcraft? |

Nice review. I think I stopped the frequent lockups in WiC by going to Direct3d tweaks in Rivatuner and setting the Vsync prerender limit to 1. Hopefully that helps someone else experiencing the same problem.

Demo ran nice and smooth on my computer.
Gameplay is not my style. I prefer economy based games and map control. In this game the player is extremely limited in what they can do. Sure the micromanagement is there, but there is no strategy. It's drop tanks and hum-vees into battle. You win. hooray. Also the camera just made me mad as it changed angle every time an objective was archived. |

PC game of the year thus far, easily the best RTS/RTT.
I want to go back and purchase the Collector's Edition now. ![]() Running 1600x1200, Very High, 2XAA and it's smooth! Not impressed with Vista/DX10 performance yet. (Still having to use the Alt-Tab NVIDIA fix too, meh.)

I agree, it's quite an atmospheric game...5 years ago I would have been absolutely addicted to this game. It's harder to stay interested in games these days

I'm impressed by how well the graphics engine scales details so that a zoomed out view angled towards the middle of a map doesn't automatically turn into a chugfest even on high detail settings. As the campaign is short but sweet I'd recommend anyone trying the hard difficulty setting first. I think the cinematics works really well compared to for instance the live actors used in Command & Conquer 3. The narrative style draws me in more, and that it runs during game loading times is a brilliant idea.
On multiplayer there are a few things I want them to improve before I'd put any real time into it. The pathing AI and units sometimes becoming uninterested in attacking obvious targets are two things that takes away too much of the fun at critical situations. The default scope for the official servers to always serve 8vs8 players also means that most sessions end up as just a big nasty mess off things. Eager for an expansion already, hopefully with a new campaign that's not that much smaller. |
