A change is as good as a rest, or so dear Grandmother Cliché would tell us all. That said, if it's not broke, don't fix it, says Grandad Cliché (who's a Fallout fan, randomly).

Walking a middle line between this grandparental wisdom would seem impossible, until you remember that Empire Earth II had plenty that needed fixing, so you better go with Grandma. It's all-change time.

Empire Earth III rethinks all the core elements of this history-spanning RTS. Instead of 15 distinct epochs to battle across, the rise of civilisation has been strimmed down to five better-defined ones (Ancient, Medieval, Colonial, Modern, Future). Instead of a series of traditional linear campaigns, there's an actual globe you have to conquer in a series of skirmishes - a little like Total War in that you have to plan your path of future conquest and general expansion.
