I played a lot of games, a lot of good games... Quake2, 4; FarCry; Half-Life 2, ep1, ep2; UT, but the one that had the most impact on me was Half-Life. Maybe because it was one of the first FPS to play, and God! I played that game and I'm still playing it, damn even my father plays it at 48 years old... The thing about Half-Life was that it had a great story, and a continuous gameplay, exactly what I apreciate the most. Most FPS have cut-scenes hat introduce the player to new levels/chapters/whatever even new games like FarCry and Quake4 have cut-scenes, but Half-Life kept the player in the game at all time, it never got you out of Gordon Freeman that you could never see, and he never says a word in the entire game, that really makes the player identify with the character. Most people are more interested on how a game looks, it gotta have great graphics or they won't play it, but the most important thing is the story, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the feeling. You see, first person shooters are egocentirc, I think a FPS fan will not really enjoy a third person because he will not identify with the character and thats why the entire game, the story, the scenery, the sounds gotta give you a feeling of being "there". When playing Half-Life I got such strong feelings and perceptions that, sometimes, I will stay up the whole night and play and the next day, I will have to go to school and sleep in class, it was like a drog, Half-Life truly is the king of FPS, the game that made me want more. When I finally finished the game I had a feeling of sadness, such as like when you part form a close friend, it ended too soon, I was like "what am I gonna do now?", I was so caught up in this that I forgotten about everthing else, nothing materred no more, it felt really strange for a few days...

I played HL2 this morning and it reminded me that I totally dig
Valve's logos : the guys head with the red valve! Speaking of posters the other day, I wish I could get two of them framed featuring the Valve logos and underneath on the black border, the lambda symbol (for HL1 and HL2). First time I loaded HL2, I noticed that the logo had changed, the red valve was now in the guy's eye! I remember saying to myself : " Next time, we'll see two of these valves right in the guy's nose !" Ah yes, Valves logos, a great piece of gaming art, maybe the most original logos (I also liked Relics' sea mine field, and some others). First time I saw it when starting HL1 - the guy with the valve plugged at the back of his head - it really gave me the creeps! I didn't know then that that was just the beginning of the ultimate gaming experience HL delivers to my veins every second I play it ! One thing the red valve does not do: refrain the boiling excitement I feel in my head and shut my eyes to the amazing graphics! But hey ! it's there so I don't explode, just reducing the pressure, ya know? I can wear a hat and sunglasses ... it's okay they tell me ! |

Team Fortress 2 Rules my world!
While I think that Portal wins my favorite Valve Game, I don't think that I could post anything exciting about it that no-one else has experienced. So I'll post about my new favorite multiplayer game instead, Team Fortress 2!
I've had so many "that was so cool!" moments in that game I couldn't count them all, but my absolute favorite had to be on the level with the train tracks going down the middle (Dustbowl or Well, I think). While everyone has probably been run down by the trains at one point and laughed at their opponents/friends suffer the same fate, this particular experience had me almost rolling on the floor. A heavy and his pet medic charged into the room with full uber when all that our team had on hand was a couple of ammo-depleted pyros and a medic or two (one being me). The general concensus was "Oh we are so screwed" as we watched the medic hit the uber and the heavy light up all blue and shiny, crying out "I am bullet pro-OOF!", at which point he was promptly slammed by the train. I'm not sure if this next bit was just a glitch, but being invincible apparently the train couldn't actually kill him, so instead it pinned him in the doorway and the two of them just sat there jittering as the hapless medic looked on. The moment his uber ran out the heavy exploded into kibble, the train roared on happily through, and everyone on my team was laughing so hard that the medic was actually able to slink away unharmed. It was the ultimate rush of dispair, then disbelief, and finally triumph, all within the space of 10 seconds. It's one of those things that makes you go "THIS is why I'm a gamer!" Thanks Valve for providing this and a thousand other moments like it! |

My favorite valve game was Day of Defeat: Source, because it offered decent graphics and really solid gameplay. The weapons and teams were all balanced, and there is always a position for each player, no matter what their playing style.

The First time I played Half-Life 2 was the last time I played it because it was too choppy on my PC. I played for about an 2-3 hours though, because Alyx kept me entertained. I mean . . . the game play was interesting.

I got the original half life off a software club, I knew nothing about it, and I was annoyed at being sent their 'game of the month'. Needless to say, I found it in my heart to forgive them after I was totally blown away by it!
Gordon will always find a place on my hard drive! |

Favourite Valve game has to be DoD:S , it just keeps dragging into playing again and again. The weapon ideology has been done very good, mg is really an mg and rips the opponents into pieces, submachinegun is deadly from short range but doomed from longer range, rifles are deadly when aimed just a bit and so on... All in all, weapon balance is somewhat ( well nearly ) perfect and like someone mentioned, spawn-system is done well, not too much waiting but no insta-spawning either. Variety of maps is very good also.
Could go on more and more and either way, DOD:S beats most online fps-games as of today.

Despite technological advances, it has to be Half-Life. The immersion of that game grabbed me the whole game through.

my friends and i were big counterstrike players in college (we sucked
) but we were heavily addicted to it cause it kept us busy while waiting for out next class. one day one of my friends got into a motorcycle accident and broke his left leg. he was put on bed rest for about a 1week to bad boredom got the best of him on his 2nd day and he decided to come to our favorite internetcafe to play with us and some other peeps. we were all happy to see him come and play, after a couple of hours lossing death matches on the 2nd floor one of the trashcans near the end where he was sitting caught fire we didnt know it was a prank or accident but it managed to burn the curtains really fast.. we were all out there really quick and somehow we left him upstairs good thing the manager killed the flames before it became really big. he was up there really miffed cause we didnt even help him go down the stairs LOL so much for friendship but it was all good memories till this day...

If you like the FPS Genre,HL2 defeats all the games on the market with its technologies, and especially with its catching story

I'd have to say that it's the Halflife 2 series for me.
I'm a Senior Citizen now (just turned 62), and HL2 with Alex is just about the closest thing to sex that I see these days . Well, that and the Ruby (pant, pant, pant) demos. I know that might make me a "Dirty Old Man" , but dang it, us DOM's need some love too.You folks need to spread around a little lovin for us geezers. I've always been about a 1/2-1 step behind on vid cards ever since I got my first ATI 9500 Pro, and it sure would be nice to have a top end card just ONE time so I could see all those 'Game hotties' in all their radient glory. It would help the quality of life for one old fart if you would send that rascal my way. P.S. The wife seconds this, as every now and then HL2 does 'inspire me', and she gets the benefit of the results.
