The best summary of Gears of War that I've heard was quipped by one of my friends as we played it on my then brand-new Xbox 360: "Gears of War is the Hummer of videogames.” And that's true - everything about Gears of War is big, brash and 100% American. Most notably, instead of the interchangeable androgynous protagonists that star in so many games from the Land of the Rising Sun, Gears of War features absurdly macho muscle mountains, with steroid-pumped limbs and necks like tree trunks:
