Crytek defends Crysis spec requirements

Source: CVG
_______________
Crytek's boss has defended its hardware-hungry FPS Crysis, saying he believes the studio struck a good balance between performance and spec requirements.

"I think an important distinction that many gamers overlooked was that we designed 'medium' settings to look and play great", Cevat Yerli told IGN. "Our 'medium' setting should run great on 70 percent of gaming PCs".

yep.... not sure what other people are bitching about imo...

but it does "appear" unoptimised mind you.... but i still agree that making games with higher graphical properties then current hardware can push is not a bad idea at all..

Not a bad idea until you look at the Crysis sales figures.

It's their fault for giving gamers the wrong impression. There were gameplay vids recorded with a 8800 and Dual core cpu on high quality running smooth yet that's not what the consumer got.

Medium @ 1024x768 ran absolutely perfect solid 30 fps on my HD3850 in DX10.
When i ran it in DX9 my frames still stayed in the 20s/30s at high quality.

The problem is people think they can run this on a 6800GT with everything maxed out, maybe if the requirements were a bit less vague then yeah Cyrtek wouldn't get so much stick.
I still think they've done a good job.

I would admire them if they could release a game that was OPTIMISED and took advantage of the PCs that are out there now, not in 2 years or something.

Everyone can make a very good looking game that requires a future PC. If the developer is any good they should do something about current generation.

Or at least don't whine because people don't like what they get and they have sales in the few thousand.

The time when mass amount of people would upgrade just to play one game is long gone. And Crysis is certainly not the one to make people return to that.

You want more sales? Make a good game that looks good on current generation of hardware.
