8 Reasons Why PC Gaming isn't Dead @ CVG
Source: CVG
____________ PC gaming is dying. Well, that's what dramatic headlines spawned off the back of figures showing declining sales of PC games at retail would have you believe, anyway. Even traditional PC-lovin' developers are questioning its long-term value. Epic superstar Cliff 'Cliffy B' Bleszinski for example recently describing PC gaming as being in disarray and saying that for Epic "right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at." |

Wait, I thought that PC gaming keeps dying from the day N64 was released?
Every year, PC gaming is DEAD. Meh. Anyway good article I guess. Hundrends of millions of PCs out there and people still say PC gaming is dead...

So... Epic release Gears of War for PC, a game that's been out for a year on the 360 already. Besides some extra content, it's basically the same average game with some good graphics. They also release UT3, another rehash of their multiplayer FPS, at around the same time the likes of ET:QW and Team Fortress 2 appear. They then wonder why their sales are naff?
Seems to me that they're just bitter, and placing the blame elsewhere. |

the more good games get published, the less each game will sell. Money can only be spend once.

sounded like he was trying to convince himself as much as the readers
![]() PC gaming is not dead and i cant see it dying any time ever and its not because consoles cant do certain genres or whatever, ppl need to realise that saying keyboard/mouse is better than a pad is pure OPINION. (keep in mind keyboards and mice can be used on consoles, 99% of devs just dont add it to their games. last game i can remember that incorperated it well was quake 3 on dreamcast lol) after they guy stated consoles havent "tapped into" the mmo market he kinda lost any credability in my eyes as the statment is straight up incorrect (for the peeps who dont know, there is and has been for some time a MMO on the 360) |

Consoles age and need a "next-gen" successor to keep the market alive for the company that develops them. Computers can change effortlessly with the times though.
PC Gaming will NEVER die, End of. |

I'm confident that with MS, Nvidia and AMD pushing for the success of PC gaming (they make way more from it than any of their consoles) PC gaming will always survive.

Guys, let's not forget that you need to pay some serious money (all things considered) to keep having an updated PC over the lifetime of a console.
Both platforms have good and bad things about them. I don't understand why some (like some articles that pop up every few months) see this is having to support either of the two. They have and they can continue to co exist.

the only problem with PC gaming is the warezing. it is really not helping development. Sure 360 games are warezed too, but its a little bit more difficult and not so mainstream.
We would all be in a much worse place without PC games, the technology drives everything forward. |

I honestly don't think PC gaming is dying at all. In fact, I would say it's stronger now then ever before. People of all types are becoming more familiar with PC's, which gets them into gaming. Massivly popular games like WoW and the Sims are a great way to introduce people to the PC. Indy games (such as Aquaria, which is great btw) seem to be making a splash within certain circles.
What I'm most interested in, is the new business models the game company's are coming up with to fight piracy. Free downloadable content, no-pay MMO's, deep multiplayer, etc. It's in an early stage, but they are making great efforts to give people incentive to buy the games. This will only get better as time goes on.

It's said every single time a new console comes out that "PC Gaming will die with the release of this console" and then sooner or later a new piece of hardware comes out than can bitch-slap the console into submission. Yes there's warezing, but with services like Windows Live and Steam piracy has been majorly cut down... What a shame ![]() And all this talk about the cost of upgrading a computer? If you bitch about the cost of upgrading, why are you here, with your most likely modded/custom built rig at DriverHeaven? Why aren't you playing your 360/PS3/Wii and preaching how much it'll kill the PC? Meh.. ![]() |
