Steam really has a corner on this niche market IMHO, I've been on steam since about 2 months prior to when it was "forced" and have never had a problem. The library they are now offering is impressive. Is there even anything out there that comes close? If so i haven't heard of it.

Agreed. Honestly, I never thought I would like the idea of digital distribution, but I've bought a couple games through steam, and I am quite impressed. It's nice having everything tied to an account, don't have to worry about damaged CD's or lost access keys.

Great stuff
![]() I've got to admit i really hated steam at first, it was really slow, munched at my resources and was a pain in the arse. But now it's been optimised (i think, or maybe it's just me getting a more powerful rig), it's a lot quicker with the store ect. and not having to use CDs/DVDs anymore + world wide access is god's gift to gaming. Awesome

Total Gaming Net. Very similar to Steam, you need to use an application when installing and patching the game. GamersGate, you need to run an application when you download and install the game. This is perhaps closer to Steam in terms of number of games available through them. MatrixGames, although more a publisher, they do not use a special program, a simple download of a non copy protected file, but you need the game key to install and and download any patches. Many games, mostly strategy and wargames. I think it doesn't offer the unrestricted downloads the other 3 do, but it has far less DRM too. I like them all and I find myself the last couple of years buying mostly from them than physical copies. (mind you with MatrixGames and with some TG games you can also buy a physical copy at a slightly increased price).
