Survey: Blu-Ray Movie Viewing On PS3 On The Rise

According to a new Warner Home Video survey, customers are increasingly using PlayStation 3 consoles to watch Blu-Ray video content, with the percentages of both number of households and time spent watching rising from late 2007 to early 2008.

Analyst group Screen Digest quotes the numbers given by Warner's home video president Ron Sanders at a recent digital entertainment conference in Paris.

Well that's because no one is dumb enough to go buy a stand alone player at the same cost you can get a PS3 for.

Once that changes not as many PS3's will be sold and that number should come down.

No one is dumb enough? On the contrary, the smart ones, those that want better quality video playback, better color reproduction, a whisper quiet experience (or rather, that the only noise they hear is the movie being played on their speakers, and not the fan on the PS3), and want/need DTS HD bitstream audio via HDMI, they buy a standalone player. I've seen the difference on a 46" Samsung LN-T4669F LCD TV, and man I tell ya, the difference is very noticeable. The picture from the standalone player is way better.

The PS3 has a lot going for it, but if you want the best picture possible to go along with that nice large LCD TV, then you will want a standalone player. Getting both, however, is an even better idea.

Ok I agree with you lol, but I am still upset at the current prices. They need to lower them because there is no way I am willing to spend $400+ on a new movie player that might not even last.

Sure it beat HD-DVD, but that was only because of the PS3. Blu-ray still has a large gap between dvd and blu-ray and price is the only thing going to take care of it.
