Spector: 100-hour games are out

Junction Point's Warren Spector, best known for Deus Ex, spoke last week at the Game Education Summit in Dallas and expressed his belief that 100-hour games are on the way out. Gamasutra reports Spector expressed being tired of making games about "guys in black leather carrying guns," and that expectations for titles costing between $35 - 100 million are huge. He also pondered how many people actually finished GTA, noting a desire that players see the last level if he was going to spend $100 million on a game.

Good, I just don't have the time for these lengthy games anymore (racked up about 150 hours on Oblivion) and the titles just keep piling up as more good games are released. I like quick, 10-15 hour games which pack a wallop such as HL2: Episode 2 or CoD4.

Good thing he doesn't know what the hell he is taking about.

By saying something and then saying your surprised at evidence that proves otherwise he is sounding like a moron.

Sorry Warren, I loved Deus ex and had about 150 Hrs put into it. Over 100hrs in Cod4 Multiplayer, Oblivion (alsmost 200 hrs), and some of the other GTA series.

Just shows how he is out of touch with the gaming community. Maybe he should sell a 15 min game and see how it fares.

Wow, I must have 1000+ hours on Steel Panthers series (now winSPMBT), but I guess I am wrong and I don't actualy play the game, only think that I do.
Or Renegade, 200-300 hours over the last 2 years.
Or Rainbow Six Vegas (100+)
Or ....etc.

I agree that most companies only make half ass attempts at games that they simply can't have more than few hours of gaming due to any number of reasons, like lack of desire, marketing reasons, bad games to begin with, wanting to sell more and more expansion packs etc, but that doesn't mean that "100-hour games are out".
I see that he now works for Disney, which explains a lot. What masterpiece of 5 hours will come out of this I wonder...
