Xbox 360 Blu-ray Rumors: The Nail in the Coffin?

One of the more persistent rumors in the industry is that Microsoft is readying to announce a Blu-ray player for the Xbox 360. After the failure of the HD-DVD format, the move was often seen as only a matter of time.

Why would MS do this? It makes no sense not to give an optional Blu-Ray player if people want to pay for it. Also, not having it will always be a major factor for people deciding between buying a 360 or PS3.

They for sure made the wrong marketing move this time.

You almost think it will have to, to keep up to date with the next Playstation. Just running out of room on DVD.

They could use HD-DVD just for the storage space since it would be a lot cheaper, but as a movie side it would really suck and don't think it would go over well at all lol.

Yes a blue ray drive is the smartest move to make with an optional drive. Considering there is no other option. We as consumers made that choice for microsoft. We chose blue ray and that's what we get.

I don't think the 360 needs a blu-ray player to beat the ps3. Licensing the player would just tie sony into microsoft's success. Why should microsoft give them anything? The 360 is already doing better than the ps3 and there is no indication that this will change anytime soon.
