The push to bring eSports into the mainstream has been a long one, yet despite the fervour that one might see from the fans at tournaments like the World Cyber Games or Blizzard's WorldWide Invitational, competitive gaming – in most parts of the world, is still quite niche. Why is that? You'd think that with the sheer size of the industry, the audience and the skill base would be there. Maybe it's finding the right formula to make guys sitting in front of computers engaging. Maybe it's because gaming is inherently an interactive pursuit, so the switch from player to spectator is more significant than one might think.
