I like how you can now install games (hear me Mass Effect and PG3?)
But, I have the 20GB HDD...without any demos or game live installed, or videos, music etc, I could still barely install two games. The hard drives are too expensive for the 360.

there have been some people modding more recent hardrives that have considerably larger capacities into the xbox360 HD module.

i'm really serprised microsoft hasn't provided a more modular method of replace the hardrive.

it would make more sense for the xbox360 to have a few gb of data stored into the xbox itself, then allowing any hardrive to be installed, format, and game profiles and basic game data to be restored (games purchased over the marketplace would have been saved to the internal memory so that it remains as being purchased and only needed to be redownload again)

I would love it if Microsoft were to ease up on that restriction, Judas, but they won't. They see it as a way to make money. What hasn't sunk into their pea sized brains is that people aren't buying it BECAUSE it's too expensive, and stores like EB/Gamestop aren't selling it BECAUSE people weren't buying it.

Like, clue in already, Microsoft. I would buy the 120GB drive if it were more reasonably priced, say $100, but $200? No F'ing way.

Yeah, when I got my first car, a 1968 Pontiac Le Mans with a 350 cubic inch engine I felt the same way. Why can't i put bigger tires and a bigger intake and some cherry exhausts? That would make the car go much faster.

Then after nearly wrecking it a few times, having it pulled out of a ditch after letting a friend drive it I began to rethink the situation.

The car worked fine until I started messing with it. I was pouring money into fixing the car that I could have spent on other things. I sold the Lemans and bought a 1966 VW Beetle.

I learned a similar lesson with computers. I was good at modding them but my wife would get very unhappy when I changed something. "Leave it alone will you?" she would say. She only wanted it to work for the things she needed it to do. It did not need to run faster if it that meant it was going to crash more often.

Sure, it might be good for some if mods could be easy. But the support issues for the manufacturer multiple very quickly.

Imagine if the parents, or little brother, took the average Xbox player’s machine and modded it while they were on vacation. Do they try to fix it or call Microsoft?

I believe Microsoft, like most companies, makes good products for specific uses. The products should be safe too, I am pretty sure no one wants their little brother swapping the drive out it was too easy.

Yes, I do work for Microsoft. No, we only get a slight discount on hardware. Would I like to get a bigger drive on an Xbox for less? Sure, anything to save me money is good. It means more money for games for me.

Think about the price of drives this way. Microsoft, any company for that matter, has to find a quality drive. Order lots of them months ahead of time. Install them in Xboxes, ship the Xboxes. And yes during that production cycle the price of part will change. But it’s down to basic Business economics. They have to keep prices down and make a profit to stay in business in order to create new products. It’s a normal cycle of business.

I loved that '66 Bug too. Because it was cheap and got me around till the day the floor rusted out, the driver seat, with me in it, fell through the chassis floor. It was funny until I realized it cut the hydraulic brake line as it fell through floor. I was playing Fred Flintstone trying to stop the darn thing.

So now I work for Microsoft helping them to create the products I like and want to use. If I run into the Xbox folks I will ask them about the drives. In the meantime please continue to enjoy gaming. I welcome any questions that I can help answer about how things work here and I might have a good answer someday. No promises, but I am here to make things better for everyone.

In the future I hope to be able to mod a 2.5" drive to work with the 360. But my more immediate concern is the fact that mine runs so hot! To that end I may totally void my warranty and get one of those cases from Lian Li (I currently use a Nyko Intercooler, and it vibrates and is noisy).

As for the new Dashboard... I have mixed feelings. I play allot of PC games so after 10 months of Xbox 360 ownership my gamerscore still isn't that high. That means my avatar is going to look generic. Maybe if I can eventually export my Fable 2 character to the Dashboard (without his weapon) that would be cool! Either way I guess I'll have to "live" with it.

I'm not sure how early or late the development is for this new dashboard but in my honest opinion it looks crap. Why don't they just add functionality to the old one that looked and worked great?

I have to agree with most of this. There is nothing seriously wrong with the current dashboard. While the slide presentation type window of the upcoming dashboard is ok it just looks bland. The fullscreen look of the current dashboard is more appealing as it looks to have more substance. Adding some of the things in the fall update is all they really needed to do, as well as streamline the pages, especially to get rid of all the redundant listings (such as listing the same things over and over again on 3 different blades). However, I can understand the need for this new dashboard. The current one is 3 years old, and frankly, it is getting kind of ripe.

One of the biggest changes I like is that they are expanding Marketplace. My biggest gripe with the current setup is that it is very clumsy and disorganized, and there is a serious lack of information for any of the given downloads, especially the games section. There's either very little or no information for a lot of them. Go looking on the net for information on them, and you see the exact same thing unless it's a high profile download. Why should I waste my time downloading a game when all I see is, "This item is not refundable." as the game's only description, or a simple paragraph that hypes the game, but says nothing about it's gameplay with my only hint being the genre it is listed in? Sure I could download the demo, but honestly, that's a lot of time and effort to get something I might not buy.. or like, and I sure as hell am not going to download all of the games just to find that out. And what about the gamer pics and themes? There are tons of them on Marketplace, but not one screenshot of what they look like. Screenshots and a more detailed description of the game/gameplay is what gets peoples attention, and the lack of any such thing on the current dashboard is definatly hurting their business. With that kind of information there would be a hell of a lot more downloads going on, especially from casual gamers who don't have the time to download game after game to find something that interests them. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have finally clued into this.

I am not a big fan of the current dashboard in terms of looks. I find it a bit slow.

The updates are nice but here is an idea, how about you start supporting Xbox Live in Greece (and other countries)? The major reason to choose an xbox 360 is the Xbox Live! and yet you don't support it in Greece cause of limited sales...how is it going to sale much more if the main reason to owning one is not available here? Stupid stupid stupid.
Wii and PS3 are fully supported.

Same here, the current dashboard is too slow and my account takes ages to login...

As for no support in Greece (and South America), I find this strange given that Switzerland has support and well... tis a shitty small country lol.

Anyways, I want this dashboard and I'll start saving up for 120GB HDD even though it costs the equivalent of 240$ here.
