Parents "fear" GTA more than porn

Parents are more concerned about their children's exposure to videogames than they are about alcohol, violence and pornography, according to recent polls conducted by What They Play.

Two polls conducted by the site found that children drinking beer and watching pornography were less objectionable to parents than playing certain videogames. The 3000 participants in the polls also suggested that it was more acceptable to view violence than sexuality within games.

good research. shows how much this world needs a virus to read the idiotic gene in people and stop them having kids in the first place.

I still feel god's biggest flaw was making reproduction so straightforward. It should be like a puzzle, a challenge. Something just difficult enough to vet out the plonkers from the intelligent people.

The parents are simply much more familiar with drugs, violence and porn. Which may be a good reason for why the kids stay in theire rooms in front of a computer rather than socializing with their parents. :rollseyes:

My mum came into my room one day to nag about me not picking my clothes up in the bathroom or something and i was playing HL2 Episode 2, i was shooting down a few Zombines and she goes "That's horrible" :/

Actually, I'd agree that GTA is worse than porn only because it and games like it are more likely to get in the way of kids doing their homework and concentrating on schoolwork than porn.

I'm sure quite a few unsuspecting parents bought their children World of Warcraft thinking it was harmless fantasy...they're lucky if their kids saw daylight after that

I think a lot of parents love that because it gives them a bit of peace and quiet. then on the rare occasions they can be bothered to get involved in the kids life they blame the game. Rather convenient really.

it's a game... nothing more or less...... if someone is going to have a problem with it affecting thier lives, then THEY have the problem.. not the games fault..

If the parents have a problem being concerned that thier child is without a concience or without a brain in thier head, and figure they should get a games removed from the market place, imo they should be shot as well.

IF a child is not doing thier homework or whatever due to playing the game..... give the sob a swift kick in the ass and make the sucker do what they need to do. (only worth getting involved if the child is consistantly showing little to no knowledged gained aka, poor results in whatever they are failing. Otherwise let em be)

You can blame modern medicine and unions for that, not God.

I honestly do believe violent video games (along with everything else going on in their life) shape children in to what they are. Most of the users on here remember playing games as kids but none like what is out today. With how much technology has advanced, games and media are getting more explicit every day. I also believe this is desensitizing and brainwashing the youth of today.


While this trend is expected what I do not expect is anyone to handicap the industry (freedom of speech and creative design) to show kids the right things to learn from. This filtering of the world is the sole responsibility of their parents. Parents should not be afraid of GTA if they had they self control to say no to their kids, which is really what it comes down to.

yea uh there's a warning on it? and at that age if you are giving kid the money for the console and the game (and don't care) that's your fault. if the porno store is selling porno to your kid, that's their fault and yours. same with GTA. not rockstar's

I grew up playing doom/quake/road rash/GTA1 and a number of other games that were exceptionally violent....

Nothing has changed aside from more realistic graphics and i'm still not sure about gameplay in majority of the titles out there.

Games are Games, the moment they are anything more then a game, is a huge problem for the user/abuser.
