Installing the games so that I don't hear the lousy optical drive is the best thing about this for me. Still, I rather wait a couple of days in case there are any major bugs with it.

Re: New Xbox Experience opens, for some

i saw some xbox360 120gb drives the other day for $99 ..... so this leaves me to beleive that a new larger drive will be showing up likely very soon...

Re: New Xbox Experience opens, for some

I would like to see more articles that do comparisons of DVD loading vs HDD loading like the one I read (I think a link was posted here, but can't seem to find it) that showed that loading Halo 3 took longer off the HDD than it did the DVD (sometimes by as much as 10 seconds longer), while some games didn't benefit at all from the loading (or the stupid article about Fable 2 looking better when loading from the HDD).

Re: New Xbox Experience opens, for some

That's the crap one. I have yet to see one person other than him mention having better graphics due to the game loading off the HDD.

I can't seem to find the one where the guys compared load times for levels from individual games from the DVD and the HDD, such as Orange Box, Halo 3, Fable 2, and such. All I remember is that Halo 3 load times were horribly worse.

Edit: Found the article HERE at Eurogamer.

Re: New Xbox Experience opens, for some

I just finished installing and quick testing Mass Effect.
OH MY GODS! It's sooooo much better now. It does feel a bit quicker to load, but the major difference is the sound. No more hoover running inside the xbox. It's all so quiet...love it.

No kidding. Much better gaming "experience", wouldn't you say?

First game I tried was Fable 2. That game streams so much data off the DVD drive it's insane. Not only do you get a lot slow downs as the game loads on the fly, but the DVD drive is constantly running. Now the game runs super super smooth, menus and all, and it's nice and quiet when I'm playing.

Oh, and Fable 2... looks the same as it did before.

Re: New Xbox Experience opens, for some

The new interface looks cool. And I imagine that the facility to be able to load games I'm playing to the HDD will be very welcome. But I'll have to need to wait just a bit longer to find out. I'm still "burning in" my new 42" Plasma... (Deep Sigh! The last one started to have some image retention issues after a week of playing Fable II for 12+ hours/day. )
