360 to match PS3's 10-year lifecycle, says Kim

Shane Kim, Microsoft's corporate VP in charge of strategy and business for Interactive Entertainment, was unsurprisingly upbeat about his company's performance at E3 this year, and revealed that Microsoft was working on a ten-year lifecycle for the Xbox 360 - vocalising for the first time a similar strategy to Sony's long-held plans.

So in the average 10 year 'lifespan' of the console you end up with about 10-15 RMA's, ive had 5 already myself and everyone I know (not just a percentage, I mean everyone) has had theirs replaced at least once.

I hope to god they build the next one better, because the thermals and internal design of that machine is shockingly bad, the first time I took mine apart to measure temperatures and fix it properly I was stunned into silence for a good few hours. It should never have gotten out of the door. I guess the 1.5billion in RMAs so far would verify that.

I am one of the lucky ones I guess. I own two machines and none of them have had any such problem. They seriously need to fix their next system, it's just silly to have to replace your system every few months or so (for some people).

Re: 360 to match PS3's 10-year lifecycle, says Kim

First xbox360, failed within a relatively short time of about 2 months at which point microsoft called foul saying it was tampered with, and i got my money back from my supplier...

Then i got my next xbox360, retail, new..... hasn't shown any signs of trouble ASIDE from need for speed both prostreet and undercover ocassionally causing a weird lockup out of the blue VERY RARELY...... it's just weird... i may see it do that if i play a solid 2 weeks for hours on end once...

i got another xbox360 in febuary i think, got it with extra warranty to boot... and i got it home, fired it up, and it locks up and crashed constantly.... took it back and got it replaced and no issues

Something that might help, after you finish playing a game, don't switch off the xbox. Let it run, while you are out of the game, in the "blades", for a good 10+ min. Then switch it off.

And I hope you don't have anything on top or on the sides of it. Baby needs air!

I agree and being in the electronics field the cooling is terrible. After playing the first Oddworld for 4-6 hours straight on the original PS1 my brother and I had to turn it upside down to keep it from overheating and locking up.

Not to mention the layout, etc some of them are scary.
