Sony stands firm on 'no PS3 price cut' policy

SCEE President Andrew House says firm is confident that European gamers aren’t price sensitive.SCEE president Andrew House has told MCV that Sony will only cut the price of the PlayStation 3 when the time is right.

In an exclusive interview, he said that the company is focused on returning its PlayStation business to profitability, and House is confident that European gamers look at the full package when considering what console to buy, and not just the price.

I still think its reasonably priced considering the bluray player. its reduced to under 300 quid here now. was launched at around 430.

agreed but only if you are actually interested in the Bluray player

Dont take my throwaway comment wrong i own a PS3 but i can see where the price is a holdout for pure Gamers , i purchased it with the Bluray in mind but some people just wanted a games console pure and simple

and in that respect the PS3 is overpriced compared to the 150 Quid 360

I believe the bluray player part matters less and less. When you can buy a bluray-rom for less than 50 euros...

No I understand your point, but its pretty hard to imagine the PS3 without the bluray player. I think as a games machine the bluray player has never really been fully utilised and I would say a lot of people would like a 150 quid PS3 with a dual layer DVD drive if they aren't interested in the bluray options. Bit far down the road now for that to happen however.

Personally I think its great value, but its hooked up to my plasma so I get a lot more out of it than just gaming. It also helps that the bluray setup in the Ps3 is actually as good as dedicated players ive tested at three times the price of the whole console (unless you are aiming for ultra high end audio output). You get regular updates for the PS3 online and it even has 24 frame playback options as well as enhanced colour gamuts which a lot of standalone players don't.
