If you're working your thumbs into a carpal-tunnel frenzy on your Sony (NYSE: SNE) More about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), navigating the blood and gore of the company's successful gaming franchise "God of War," do you really want to interrupt the mayhem to take a phone call from Mom?

Sony may soon get an answer to that question, according to Nikkei Business Daily, which reported over the weekend that the Japanese consumer electronics giant is looking into the prospect of developing a hybrid mobile phone/gaming device.

I would've thought lowering the still extortionate price would drive sales up.
I'm well aware Sony need to make a profit from their console but if people don't have the money to buy it, it won't be bought.

Microsoft had to dig deep into their pockets and bring the price down ridiculous amounts for it to cope with the popularity of the PS2 and put up a good fight, it looks like the tables have turned with the precision of a mirror image this time. Perhaps Sony should follow the example already set out.
