Infinity Ward: Death of dedicated servers for PC gaming at hand

Infinity Ward starts it with the PC release of CODMW2

With the release of the PC version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, developer Infinity Ward has announced that the end of dedicated servers is at hand; and instead the company will be launching its new IWNet matchmaking service that Infinity Ward will operate.

The decision is likely going to seriously change the way that the PC community plays games in the future. Infinity Ward is talking about making the entire process more accessible by getting rid of dedicated servers that are hosted and managed by players. Of course, initial reaction by the COD PC community has been outrage.

yea the excuse of it making it equal playing grounds with consoles is bs to me, feels like trying to bring the netcode from the consoles over more or less. if you want to make it equal playing grounds, give the ps3 and pc the same DLC

I and many of my friends have CoD2, CoD4 and CoD WaW, but we almost only play hosted on each other's computers.

We now won't be buying this game, and I imagine that there's plenty of others like us. No doubt the drop in sales will be attributed to the decline in the popularity of PC gaming.

I don't understand, if what they had going in cod4 worked so well (and still does) then why change it like this? Come on IW.

WHEN WILL THIS INSANITY END?

Just because one game ends support to dedicated servers it doesn't mean either of the above.
In fact you can make it certain it won't even affect the next game in the series, thus allowing dedicated servers, by NOT BUYING the game. Vote with your wallet.
