PSP continues to outsell PS3 and Wii in Japan
PlayStation Portable sales remained high in Japan this week as the console retained its number two position in the hardware chart for another week.
The Sony handheld sold 32,865 units, which was just over 100 hundred fewer than the week prior. The PlayStation 3 outpaced Wii to remain the third best selling platform. _____________ Source: Gamesindustry |

Re: PSP continues to outsell PS3 and Wii in Japan
I am a bit surprised, the PSP has always been a nice handheld technically speaking, but it is the lack of quality games which has made it not so popular, especially against the DS.
Looking at the chart, I see the DSi at No.1 and the PSP at No.2, I think this shows that handheld/casual gaming is gaining momentum against the more powerful consoles (I own both). I used to be an avid PC and PS2 gamer, but I actually prefer the smaller screen and portability of a handheld. It's the "pick up and play" nature that appeals to me. |

Re: PSP continues to outsell PS3 and Wii in Japan
The problem, I'm finding, is that handhelds seem to be targeted directly at kids and they are forgetting old-school or adult gamers that would prefer their games not to be all flowers-and-bunnies all the time (DS specifically).
They need to make more games that appeal to adults. I don't mean porn or death-fest games, just games with "cool" masculine characters as opposed to fluffy-foo-foo effeminate kiddie crap. Maybe some apps that would be useful in an adults everyday life, like organizers or calculators and stuff like that. More arcade compilations from the days when WE were kids. Something. It just seems like they are forgetting a whole demographic of people with these systems. |
