A playable demo for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is now available, providing a sample of the upcoming tie-in with the latest major motion picture from the Aliens and Titanic director. The demo first surfaced on the German Coca-Cola Zero Website, of all places, and while the page is German, the demo supports several other languages, including English. The version we checked out here had a few complications, on installation it complained of a CRC error on the UK readme, but the installation proceeded fine after choosing to ignore that, and after bombing once, it ran (we've also not been able to get sound to work, but haven't really spent that long trying to fix that). Also, the installer didn't create any shortcuts to launch the game, but it could be launched from the \Program Files\Ubisoft\Demo\James Cameron's AVATAR - THE GAME (Demo)\bin\ directory. The download is mirrored on AtomicGamer, ComputerGames.ro, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying.

wow this is bad had errors on install and ignored those then the game ran the first time , i stopped made a cuppa and now im trying to run the game and it just refuses to run giving me "there was an error and Avatar has closed"

not the best i have to admit

I tried the demo and it looks great. You have four special powers with a cooldown and one of them is the power of healing. It comes in handy if you die because you can activate it to keep yourself from dying. I found it a bit annoying that the HUD disappears when you do nothing but I guess it's like that so you can a good look at the pretty environment.

It's got some mouse lag but I don't know if it's coming from something wrong in the game (like mouse smoothing that you can't turn off) or if it's something wrong with my mouse or video card settings.

I've got an iZ3D monitor. This game has a 3D mode and it supports the iZ3D monitor. I just need to activate it and put on my 3D glasses. I've got to say that it looks really impressive with the feeling of depth. The crosshair is rendered at the depth where you are aiming at all time so it's easy to aim even if it's in 3D.

So it's a third person action game?
Unless I find it at bargain price I am not going to buy it, and even if I do, I will wait to see the movie first.
