Group complains that Mafia 2 portrays the Mafia as Italian
A group called UNICO National, which claims to be the largest Italian-American service organisation in the States, have complained to Take-Two Interactive over the content of upcoming mob game Mafia 2. This same group had previously complained about the content of television show The Sopranos for the same reason, which is that the Mafia is portrayed as mostly Italian.
The organisation’s head Andre’ DiMino said in a letter to Take-Two: “Take Two is directly, blatantly and unfairly discriminating and demeaning one group to the exclusion of all others. We are demanding they halt release of the game and cleanse it of all references to Italians and Italian-Americans”, apparently forgetting that the entire game that his group is complaining about is themed around Italian crime families. Nobody at UNICO has played the full game as yet as it only releases to the public next week. Source: PC Format

Re: Group complains that Mafia 2 portrays the Mafia as Italian
I.....hate......people......end of story. Good news is that I don't discriminate!
![]() This is ridiculous. It is based around Italians because it is based around Italian crime families. HOLY SHIT accuracy! Why do they care? They aren't in the mob or they would have just shot up the headquarters of Take-Two. Instead they polietely asked them to quit being accurate and protraying people that they have no relation to in a bad light. Of course they are portrayed in a bad light. Technically, they were bad people (not to mention badasses ) Its like if the German Americans complained that making a game about WWII made them look bad. NOT THE SAME PEOPLE!!!

Re: Group complains that Mafia 2 portrays the Mafia as Italian
The characters in an organized crime themed game set in 1940s and 1950s US will mostly be of Italian descent? Go figure.
Also, if this article is anything to go by, *even at present day, the Italian-American Mafia is "the largest organized crime group in the United States and continues to hold dominance over the National Crime Syndicate, despite the increasing numbers of street gangs and other organizations of neither Italian nor Sicilian ethnicity." So how about a reality check for the guys behind the complaints?

Re: Group complains that Mafia 2 portrays the Mafia as Italian
What a bunch of Dufuses!
OF COURSE the Italian Mafia (Cosa Nostra) isn't "mostly of Italian descent". To be a member of Coss Nostra you MUST be a Sicilian. So their claim of "mostly" is bogus. Cosa Nostra membership is 100% Italian. Unless they are bitching about the game having NON-ITALIAN members in it's "Mafia"

Re: Group complains that Mafia 2 portrays the Mafia as Italian
I can see it now, the Taliban complaining that they are being portrayed as violent in MOH. And to show their disagreement, they kill people.
There are several "Mafia" but if a game or movie is focused on one, Italian, isn't it normal for it to portray the Italian members as....Italian? I doubt actual Mafia members mind about this, they are clever and funny, some of them will probably play the game lol. EDIT:I didn't mean that all Italians are in the Mafia, but that all Italian members of the Italian mafia are, you know, Italians.
