Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Review @ GH
Read The Review Here
________________________________ When fantasy worlds are concerned, the more dirty and gritty the lore is, the better. And by that metric, few can compete with Warhammer, be it the classic variant or the 40k space marines versus orcs one. But while having a good world to base your project on may be half of the work in the movie business, it doesn’t matter all that much in the realm of games. Especially when you want to topple the king of MMOs - World of Warcraft. |

Final Fantasy meets WOW...
if ever there was a reason for me to try some online, this is it. I absolutely love the MPEG-4 trailer too. Folks..until we get a feature length movie, this will be the absolute pinnacle of my gaming endeavors for a long time to come. I cannot wait. Thanx Allan...you have done this latest release justice. besides I was getting my butt kicked on asteroids anyway

i like the game, but its the buggiest piece of crap i have ever played. RVR is completely unplayable for me. with every ingame option set to its lowest setting, or turned off, with every background task turned off, and with the game set to 1024x768 in windowed mode, im averaging about 4fps in a 24vs24 man battle. i also get about a dozen random crash to desktops a day, and theres almost always a hardlock/reboot at least once a day.
hell, crysis runs like a dream compared to this, and at a higher resolution.

That being said I ahve only had 3 CTDs, a few lag issues and the usual memory leaks so far, so I have had an above average experience. Nice review and I would probably agree with most of it. Personally I am on Orrud as a Chosen, up to rank 22 Renown 15. I am enjoying most of the game so far, and only real issue is a slight lack of PVE per zone but the FPs mean you can always move. PQs are great, I just finished the CH11 PQs at Tabecland and got some nice blue rank 22 items, Scens are variable, Tor Anroc, the main Tier 3 scen is completely arsed but popular as once the bauble is captured, a decent team will camp it to the end, but dont get me started on lava punting. If any players here are on Karag Orrud, I'll give you one guess as to me name online, hit me up!

Well, when I read the review I noticed they did almost everything right what annoyed me with wow. So, I ordered the Collectors Edition, and hope the game lives up to it's expectations. I will come back with my experiences.. I just hope the european servers aren't deserted..

the only other launch mmo (only other mmo for that matter) that ive played is lotro, which ran amazingly. there were some bugs and annoyances along the way, but nothing that actually kept me from being able to play.
i dont care what you say about a rocky start, if the game can not run at its lowest settings on a system as powerful, or more so (guys with 8800s, phenoms, and 4 gigs ram) and only get 4fps in a 48 man battle, something is seriously wrong.

Well I cant say ive played this game long at all as these aren't my scene, but I tried it on a few machines, even a core 2 laptop with low onboard ATI graphics and it ran fine.
Does anyone use phenom cpus?

Z, its a problem thats so hit or miss, its unbelievable. theres guys that have a system that meets bare min requirments and it runs just fine for them, then theres guys that have the best system you can buy and get the problem like i have. no one can find any common ground between us as to why were getting all the crashes and terrible performance.

Re: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Review @ GH
Well, after having played the game for a couple of hours I can say, the game is pretty fun. Personally I think the game is more mature then WoW, it's darker and more of an ugly war between Order and Chaos. I think that is a good thing. Although a lot of the people playing are former WoW-players, the vibe is better. Where I think WoW was more of a solo-game pvp-wise (battlegrounds etc), WAR really mixed pvp and teamplay very well. The only downside is the lack of players, so PlayerQuests are pretty hard to do, while you usually need more players to succesfully finish it then are around, but in time when more people will play the game this problem will go away I reckon. PvP-scenario's are another one of those 'problems', several servers have problems with low population and thus long queue-times, but this will resolve itself eventually.
The world seems a little empty at times as well, and that is a bit of a downside, there are still some minor and major bugs, and that will get fixed sooner or later by Mythic but that is just one of the things with brandnew online games I guess. Just wanted to share my opinion with all of you

Re: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Review @ GH
The review made me want to try the game. With little time to play, any game which caters for casual players is attractive.
I wish that MMO's had trials as standard. It's annoying that they don't. Also annoying is that digital downloads are more expensive than boxed products (since these are often discounted a little). |
