Saints Row 2 (PC) Review @ GH

Read The Review Here

Saints Row 2 was released on the next generation consoles quite a while ago and while similarities are always going to be made with it and Grand Theft Auto there are some quite large differences between the two .... What? Well for a start one is actually good fun, the other isn't!

Re: Saints Row 2 (PC) Review @ GH

I don't have either GTAIV or SR2 for the PC, but the difference in attitude in how each game plays (performance) is interesting. Is SR2 really that much worse in performance than GTAIV?

I wonder if the 2GB RAM are the cause of the problem or not.

Apart from the score and the previously mentioned detail, I like the review. I agree that the sudden appearance and disappearance of cars etc is very annoying, but unfortunately follow us from the first game. I noticed the freezing of enemy AI only in 2 missions so far, in both cases there were just a couple of enemy cops that played not an important role, but I am surprised it wasn't fixed for the PC version.

If they make a 3rd one I hope they improve performance and they stop this trick with the teleportation of cars, very annoying.

Re: Saints Row 2 (PC) Review @ GH

That was an unusually bitter review.

I must say though, if this game manages to run worse than GTAIV (which does run great if you have quad cores and 4 gig ram) even with a top of the line PC the sales will be mediocre.

Re: Saints Row 2 (PC) Review @ GH

The game is crap on the PC. One holy unoptimized POS. What's funny about this is that you have to make the PC version look like the console version graphically wise for the game to play somewhat smoothly. However (and I can't believe I'm going to say this), the console version is still better... not by much... but.. better.

Thank God I have a sealing machine. Makes returns so easy.

Oops.. did I just type that?

I did the same as tipstaff. Took it back. GTA4 runs pretty well on my quad core, this does not. Unless you want it to look as bad as the console version then this game is something you will not be playing.

Id be interested to hear how it runs on Zardon's Skulltrail behemoth system.

Doesnt really matter. with 8 cores at 4.5ghz I still see 15fps from time to time even with 3 280 GTXs and this is only at 1920x1200, because the game doesnt seem to even give me the option of 2560x1600.

16GB of ram as well.

its nothing like GTA4, and as much as people hated GTA4 on the PC it ran very well with high end hardware like skulltrail. This mess doesn't.

What a waste. Good thing I didn't wait and got the 360 version instead.

Ah to hell with it...I'll just buy a 360 this month and play Saints Row 1 & 2 on it.

GTAIV, however, I'm still gonna play on PC

Well i can't even think to run this in my 3800x2 amd with my x1800gto in 2gb ram maybe in 128x76 like in old mobile phones

GTAIV is at least playable with some tweaks.

Re: Saints Row 2 (PC) Review @ GH

I gave it a shot and was surprised that it ran with playable framerates maxed out at 1920x1200 with 2XAA/16AF. I then dropped the shadows to simple and no AA and it came close to 25-30fps on foot and in the speed boat.

The graphics were also pretty good looking, well, the effects at least. Textures are plain but there's some good lighting and blur going on which smooths out the faults. However, that doesn't really matter because the driving controls are just terrible. I can't imagine the console version had that bad handling...closest comparison I can come up with is one of those old Segamaster racing games such as Outrun or something on Super Nintendo, you know the types where all you can do is steer left or right, that's how it feels. I'll try it out with a gamepad hopefully that helps.
