Call Of Juarez: Bound In Blood (PC) Review @ GH

Read The Review Here

Call Of Juarez was released 2 years ago by Ubisoft and it was a game set in the Wild West that dealt with a mission for revenge as well as the hunt for a cursed treasure. Reverend Ray was a fantastic character, a fanatical preacher who quoted from the bible while shooting people in the face. COJ 2 focuses on the history of Reverend Ray, his family and their quest for gold.

I was playing it last night and I like it overall. It looks great I think, the sound is excellent, and... it's a western! I was dissapointed with the changes to the bullet time effects when compared to the first game. It all just screams "we changed a good mechanic to make it console friendly" to me. Plus, I really like how that played in the first game. We'll see if it gets boring over time.

I was quite disappointed myself. I had a play with our review copy and it didn't suck me in at all. I wasn't a great fan of the original either mind you.

Been enjoying Halo Wars on the 360 lately mind you which I know is totally off track ......

I absolutely loved Call of Juarez and so far I'm also disappointed with Bound in Blood. It's clear this game is made to appeal to the console crowd with the auto aiming (I couldn't figure out how to turn it off) and the lowered graphics. CoJ had extremely demanding graphics when it came out and then later on became one of the first games to use DX10. I expected similar progress but instead this felt more like the Call of Duty engine but with six shooters. I flat out dislike the new focus shooting where you highlight a bunch of targets then it lets loose. I preferred the closing reticules of the first game which took more skill and had better use of the mouse. The new system takes the fun out of it.

I'm not that far into the game, still on the Civil War stuff so it could get better...I'll give it another chance before I move on.
