We recently reviewed the console version of Wolfenstein 2009 and we came away a little unimpressed with the overall experience - even though the core gameplay was pretty good. By no means a bad game it however didn’t knock our socks off - something we are hoping the PC version might rectify today.

Loved the bullets sounds in the video , looks realistic. Also I like the classic shooters where you have to use old weapons. What about weapons jamming . it adds a realistic notch but it was too much in S.T.A.L.K.E.R hopefully this one is better ?

good thing it doesn't require a monster to run as I see it runs maxed with no problem.


Thanks for the making a special review for the PC version , I hope it will be repeated with the upcoming games especially FPS

Thanks for the review, but WOW, they really screwed up this game. I know it wasn't fair for the multiplayer team to be fired, but why couldn't the development team have more time? WHY did Nerve Software not come back to work on the multiplayer? At least the singleplayer looks like it has more variety and complexion than RTCW's singleplayer.

Ok, it's not bad as a standalone game, but still a terrible direction for Wolfenstein in general. Wolfenstein is NOT Call of Duty! So why does it look exactly like it?

Who knows though, I have yet to play it, but obviously my expectations aren't too high.

this is all about sharing your views. John said the multiplayer is not wonderful but he said he had a blast in single player.

I think the overall score of 87 was too high. The game doesn't really offer anything new and it feels like it's a 3-5 years old game. I got it from a friend for a weekend and didn't even bother playing it through, because I lost interest in the third mission.

Perhaps I am getting more and more demanding gamer as I'm growing older.

Just my humble opinion.

The problem is that games are very subjective to the individual. I would personally give it 75 but John said he had a blast with the single player, more so than almost anything else this year.

I had a complaint last week that our score was too hard on something else. You can never please everyone and I guess reviews on games should be taken more on the text (to see if the concepts and ideas appeal to what you normally like) rather than just reading a final score.

who said that having a blast with single player boosted it by 10 points? I said I would have rated the overall product differently, but as I am not a game reviewer its a moot point. scoring with games is a very personal opinion.

I agree with the review, and I also don't agree the multiplayer is poor either. I have had a great time both in single player and multiplayer. 90% for me

You said 'but', so I thought that 'blast in the single-player' was the reason for the higher score

Zardon didn't review it. John Erikson reviews the games. Zardon was saying he wouldn't have scored it so high if he reviewed it, but he didn't.

Not sure why this scoring nonsense seems so complicated, seems straightforward enough to me, and it shows that Z doesn't overrule the reviewers and gives them their freedom to give the games the scores they feel are right.

I bought this on the strength of this review and I almost didn't going on other reviews which slated it.

Glad I bought it, have had a lot of fun with it so far. Thanks GH.

Well, maybe Z should have sad "... but Stu was reviewing it and he had a blast with the SP so he gave it 87.", though I think that it was pretty clear what he meant. :P

I saw that this game caused quite a stir on another forum as well, with about half the people saying that it was "too easy", "had a lousy CoD-like health system" and that it was "average on the overall", and the other half saying pretty much the same Veridian3 did: "a blast", "most fun FPS of the year" and "keeps you locked to the PC all the way".

I wish I could try it myself but I need to get some new hardware first. Come to think of it, I've never played any of the Wolfenstein games, maybe I should try to find RtCW somewhere and start with that.

I don't see why a game has to have a lower score than high 80s-top, just because it has no multiplayer or because the multiplayer is not very good. For example I couldn't care less for a game if it has multiplayer component or good multiplayer. I wouldn't give any such game a lower score or not as high as one that has one. Not all of us care for that kind of gaming.

It all depends on the game. For example (other end), there is a game Command and Conquer Renegade. The single player part is average at best, even if you like the setting/world. The multiplayer of it is fantastic. I still play the game online since 2002. I am mostly a single player gamer. I wouldn't give the game anything less than high 80s.

If the reviewer gives Wolfenstein (they should really change the title to make it clear it is a new game) a good score based on the single player part, good for him/her.

Agreed. It's important that game has a mode in which it works well and keeps the player interested and entertained. It doesn't matter which mode and which genre. Of course, no game is everyone's cup of tea, but that's a matter of personal preference, just like with music, art or films.

I didn`t play RTCW before but i almost finished this one, and it`s nice. That`s all. Like all games you play once and that`s it.

The game is very good in my opinion... had a very good time with it all though the AI could do with some actual Inteligence :P

i finished it today and thought it was pretty crappy to be honest. the ai pretty damn stupid, there wasnt much of a challenge, the fake open world element was terrible, and the whole thing just got repetitive very quick. i cant tell you sick i got of hearing "flank him" while were standing in a corridor...

Well, I tried this out for a good forty minutes before confirming my suspicions. After all, it's not too fair for me to judge something without trying it for myself.

All I can say is that this game is the epitome of mediocrity. Everything is too generic and was basically ripped from Call of Duty and other games based off CoD such as Medal of Honor: Airborne. Worst of all, it feels like a console game.

Bad AI, premise is stupid and contains nothing special aside from a few gimmicks such as the floating environments, plot progression is boring and contains nothing special, voice acting ranges from passable to awful (the Nazis don't need to speak English with a German accent!), and the overall production values are sodomized to a level where the game is barely playable.

Just what the hell was Raven Software thinking? I also tried the online mode for about 10 minutes HOPING the game could partially redeem itself, but I ended up abruptly turning it off. But, hey, I knew the multiplayer would be pretty terrible going in after hearing all about Endrant Studios' big fiasco.

Very depressing.

EDIT: Can someone tell me if the singleplayer picks up at any point? If so, I may force myself to finish it. Ugh.

In the end of the day its awesome FUN. And thats the definition of a game.
