Trine (PC) Review @ GH
Read The Review Here
_______________ These days when discussing new PC games, the talking point is generally around a new cutting edge engine and how much better it looks when compared to the previous version. It seems quite often that the core element of gameplay is overlooked and today we are looking at a title from developer Frozenbyte which is a modern take on the classic 2D action adventure genre. |

Re: Trine (PC) Review @ GH
I think I'm going to have to pick this one up, I've got a soft spot for 2D games, and the "three character" idea reminds me of the Lost Vikings, which I used to love when I was young

Re: Trine (PC) Review @ GH
You definitely got my attention!
I too was reminded of The Lost Vikings, as well as more recent Braid which I loved, and perhaps Prince of Persia. I was about to start downloading the demo when I was once again reminded that I really need to upgrade one of these days.

Re: Trine (PC) Review @ GH
This game looks incredibly fun, one of the best I've seen this year (not saying a lot though). I will have to try it... But damn, I don't think anything can beat Braid in this genre now. We shall see!

Re: Trine (PC) Review @ GH
An update for the people with antique cards: the game runs even on R300 (and probably all other SM 2.0) hardware.
For some reason, the framerate plummets during the narrative moments at the very beginning, but on my 9800Pro, the gameplay itself is smooth all the way up to (and including) 1280*960, all graphical effects on, medium texture detail and no AA and AF. That's probably the upper eye-candy limit, as at that the framerate hovers in the high twenties.I must say that the artistic side is beautiful and some of the water and fire distortion effects are quite pretty. Also, you can't but remember The Lost Vikings as you play, but, at first, this seems a bit easier, because, since they are merged, you only have to get one, best suited character through a sector. Also, if one of them dies (or even two), he is resurrected at the next checkpoint. Still, the experience system and physics create possibility for complicated puzzles and I suppose that the later stages deliver them.
