Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) Review @ GH

Read The Review Here
_______________
The Call Of Duty franchise has always been one of the pioneering war based first person shooters - with big budget movie style action packed game play. Infinity Ward were responsible for probably the best game in the Series - Modern Warfare. It is therefore without question that the followup was certain to receive huge levels of hype in the run up to its release - but the big question is, can it live up to our expectations?

Thanks for the review. It seems to be good after all that hype (on consoles at least) but 5 hour SP campaign is a rip off. why ? , actually because game developers spent most of their time and work (therefore money) creating the SP campaign story elements not like the MP part whose modes are pretty much the same in most FPS games (apart from Spec ops).

Add to that the the 60$ price tag on the PC , this would drag the score for the PC version down even further.

single player fanatics
? Really?

Anyway, good extensive review.

I can't understand IW. Why are they doing this. First they make an even shorter campaign, then they put the co-op/single player mode to increase the single player game length. Then they remove??? the spawning of enemies (is this the case or have I misunderstood?) which is a great move, but the single player campaign remains at a pitiful under 5 hours.
They also have an increase in the price of the game to 60 euros on Steam, though I can find it at least 50% off in local shops. Then it is the whole dedicated servers issue.
It's like half the company (or should I say Activision?) works against the game, while the other half, in favour.
Too many mixed signals for me.
I might get the PC or Xbox 360 version at about 20 euros, not before.

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) Review @ GH

It seems to be a common thing now that more and more game developers are targeting the multiplayer markets. Even EA said recently.

"Singleplayer games are no longer the future," said a spokesperson who introduced the event which had playable segments from Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2 and C&C 4 on show.

"Multiplayer games are becoming increasingly exciting...Online functionality is a key way of extending the player experience."

I am all for multiplayer, but it would nice to feel as if companies still were putting effort into single player elements - I have had a lot of fun experiences with single player games in the past. Half Life for instance, will never forget that the first time I played it.

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) Review @ GH

Yes they do that since it is cheaper of them, which is another reason for the abandoning of the dedicated servers support. BUT, how does their focus on multiplayer match the move for ruining? the PC online part? For me it looks more and more that the PC version is a lazy attempt of a port. Anyway, I never bought Modern Warfare 1 and I am not going to buy the sequel for the amount of money they are asking for the amount of single player content they provide. Thankfully there are other FPS games out there.

I guess I don't feel this game should get a gold reward simply because it has great multiplayer. There have been plenty of games we reviews that had good multiplayer but because SP was Short/sucked we knocked em for that, coupled with the higher price Tag, I think it should have gotten silver.

that said, I'm still getting it, but I'm more pissed at only 5 hours of SP then I ever would be at a dedicated server issue. I got MW1 for the SP, because IT WASNT FREAKING WW2, Bummer

Am really disappointed that the Sp mode is so short, its hard to play online here coz the net sucks most of the time so although its grate to have multiplayer i think (for me at least) SPis a major part of a game's appeal.Am going to give this game a miss sadly too short for my liking ..

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) Review @ GH

Well I have to say that I had some time this evening to play the first 4 levels of single player and I was blown away by how much fun this game is. I didn't really enjoy the last one (COD5) but this is very like the first warfare title but it seems much faster and more chaotic.

Very impressed with some of the particle effects and the texture detail, the weaponry is very creative on a few of the levels.

Without ruining this for anyone (so ill not detail exactly why) the terrorist based airport level left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, im all for mindless killing but something about that level just didn't feel right to me, perhaps im getting old and sensitive (god forbid).

That's why they allow you to skip that level, and totally warn you 3 times about it Z. It's because you're taking the roll of the terroists, What left a sour taste in my mouth is how many characters you play that end up getting you know what. I never agree with the main character ending up like that even if it is real.

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) Review @ GH

The game was well, Interesting but i agree

5 Hours of singleplayer is nothing
MP is easy to create and update
Focus on SP more i would say since they have the capabilites to make extremely immersive games
