I am afraid to read the preview. I am a trekker, but I also have an allergy paying monthly for a game which makes it hard to me to consider buying or not buying this game.

Resistance is futile, you will buy the game. We will add your money and biological distinctiveness to our collective.

Re: Star Trek Online (PC) Preview @ GH

Looks like it would be a fun game if it had a single player mode added to it. also when are they going to learn that they would have more sales if there was not a monthly charge involved. This killed it for me. Once I pay for a game i should be able to play it without paying for it over and over again. I do not mind paying for (DLC) when it comes out but a monthly fee come on , way to rip off the people IMO. I play a lot of games on-line without paying a monthly fee. COD, BF2142, the list goes on. The graphics look awesome the game play looks like it could be a lot of fun , oh yeah theirs that monthly fee again.
Oh well Not for me I will not pay repeatedly pay or a game once I pay for it.

Re: Star Trek Online (PC) Preview @ GH

I posted this in another STO thread but MMORPG.com has 30 beta keys to give away as part of a contest if anybody is interested.

If the game had single player mode, I would have already pre-order it.
While I too refuse to play games that ask for monthly fees, I don't see it as something beyond understanding. None of the games you mentioned even approach the scope and demand for servers and updates/patches, etc, as a large MMORPG.

Re: Star Trek Online (PC) Preview @ GH

I told myself that I would never play an MMORPG again when I stopped playing Age of Conan. I felt forced to play everyday because I did not want the monthly fee to be wasted. I put in around twenty to thirty hours per week into the game for about six months.

My main grip with that type of game is that you have to pay for the game on top of the monthly fee. It would be fine for me if the game could be downloaded for free but you would have to pay a monthly fee to play. That way, it would be cheap to play if I only wanted to try it a month or two and it would be more expensive if I sticked with the game for years.

I don't really want to start playing an MMORPG again but at the same time this game is really picking my curiosity. I will give it a try if I can get into the open beta.
