Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Black Ops moves us away from the modern setting of Modern Warfare 2 and takes us back to the 60's. This isn't the swinging sixties of the Beatles, Carnaby Street and Austin Powers however; instead it's the rather darker side of the decade that included the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and the ever growing tension of the cold war between America and Russia.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

I was so out of touch when it came to FPS'ers not having actively played one since Quake II (aside from Borderlands, which I think is in a separate category) so this has been a great experience for me. The single player game has an engaging story line, tons of action (almost to the point where a noob like me wanted to duck and cover) and a little zombie mayhem after the fact.

The multiplayer mode is so much fun and easy for anybody to jump into (aside from the damn melee attack, which I can never seem to get off fast enough). So much so that my friend who says he is an old school FPS player and is gods gift to gaming was taken down so many times that he logged off.

All in all this is easily my favorite game of the year!

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

A very good review produced by HH...

I am a huge FPS Fan (Mainly Single player) as i have very little interest in the multi-Player side..So i have no idea what that part of the game is like...

I have seen quite a few Movies in the past based on some of the scenarios that were featured in Black Opps. And i feel the developers has captured the main aspects very well...

At the same time i also think going back in history makes a difference to the Modern Warefare series i have...

I hope this is included in the yearly Game of the year HH hosts... As this will be a strong contender... Or at least in the category it falls into.

No,you go through different scenarios through the whole game.

I think you have not read the review.Otherwise you would have the answer to question already.

Quote:
The story starts with us forming part of a 3 man team in Cuba on a mission to assassinate Fidel Castro. Despite what appears to be a successful mission Mason is forced to stay behind to make sure the rest of his team escapes. Of course, since we know Castro wasn't assassinated in the 60's, we soon find out that Mason's team killed a double and the real Castro takes great delight in handing us over to the Russians.

From then the story bounces from Russia, to America, to Vietnam and Laos and back to Russia. As with any good spy story there's a twist towards the end...

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

I honestly think this game wasn't, and still isn't, ready for release. It was accurate to say that there are bugs in the game, but those bugs completely ruin the experience. I've tried to run this game on low detail and resolution and it always ends up lagging or freezing whenever I get shot or if I do the shooting.

The single player is the only thing that I found to be somewhat satisfactory about the game. I really hope that they release patches fix the bugs because I feel like it would be more entertaining to make paper aeroplanes out of the $60 that I spent on this game. The current patch did nothing to fix anything.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

I am new to the forum and am an avid gamer on all systems and PC. I have Black Ops for the 360 and was contemplating buying it for PC after my new build. I was wondering if you could tell me the bugs that you have been experiencing and how it ruins the experience!?! This is disappointing and I am glad I didn't buy it yet. Thanks for any help or advice in advance.

My PC version was free, thank goodness although I thought the single player story was great. While multiplayer mode is fun, it is incredibly frustrating to unload almost a full clip into someone only to have them casually turn out and blow you away.

I think wait until a patch comes out or get Battlefield 3 or something. The main issue I have with the game is that it doesn't use my graphics card to it's full capability, yet I still get terrible framerates. When a match first starts, for the first 3 or 4 minutes, my graphics card stays in a low power state which yields about 20-30FPS on average, and it stutters whenever I'm getting shot at or am shooting. Then, when the low power mode is turned off, it doesn't stay off. Not to mention, even at full clock, the FPS stays around 50 while the GPU is loaded to 50% only.

Single player was great, but if you're getting this game for multiplayer, don't waste your money like I did. The only reason I got it in the first place is because World at War is dying out, much to my disappointment. It's not the least bit enjoyable, at least with the two different NVIDIA cards I have (9600GT and GTX 460). ATI may be different, but I'm not sure. Also, as Optix mentioned, the hitboxes in multiplayer are annoying and inconsistent. Not to mention the unfairness of the leveling system. Higher ranked players get guns that are way better than low-ranked players. That would be okay, except the guns unlocked at higher ranks are exponentially more effective than the lower ranked guns. It makes for a very annoying experience until around level 28.

Thanks for the info. That's what I heard from a buddy of mine too. I also heard the same thing about BBC2. Do you have any info on BBC2 (good, bad, or indifferent) or should I just wait for BBC3 like you originally suggested?

BBC2 wasn't near as bad as CODBlOPS. Black Ops is terrible. I've never seen GPU usage above 40% on my card, and I regularly see it maxing out my CPU (Which all but idles while playing COD: WaW).

BBC2 ran pretty smooth on my old hardware (Phenom x4 9650 and GeForce 9600GT). Still, the game is getting old, so you might as well wait from BBC3 or Crysis 2.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) @ GH

I dunno what type of usage you suppose to see with videos cards on blackops, but I know when I ran dual core with a HD5770 I never saw much GPU usage, I doubt it was even 30%, then when I upgraded to quad, I started seeing more GPU usage, way more.

Result?

I think most BLOPs problems is motherboard conflicts.

The reason why it's using more GPU when you have a quad is because it's not being bottlenecked any more. I got more GPU usage after I upgraded my rig (Added a Phenom II at 4GHz), but it used about 90% CPU and 40-50% GPU.
