Launching on the 1st of March (US) and 4th of March (EU), and currently in open beta, RIFT is a brand new next generation MMO from Trion Worlds. RIFT has been in development for about four years and has been in closed beta since late last year. Promising next generation graphics combined with a dynamic world setting RIFT has caused quite a stir in the MMO community.

Being an ex-hardcore WoW raider/PVPer, ex-LOTRO diehard, and ex-AoC fanboy, should I preorder Rift or Star Wars: TOR, you think, Craig?

Hmm I used to play WoW, and I downloaded the Rift beta today.

It seems a bit clunky compared to WoW, just not as polished, but obviously thats understandable as its a beta/completely new game. The effects are quite nice but one thing that's annoyed me so far has been the landscapes - they're kinda bleak and repetitive, always dark-ish etc.

Also I can't play on max custom settings, so I have to stick to ultra (2nd highest).

I'll be back with more in a little while.

edit: ok, after playing a little more, I've grown used to the landscapes and the basic gameplay. It is very similar to WoW, just as I mentioned above, a little more clunky - item stats don't seem to be in the right place for easy reading etc. Theres probably a few more minor things like that that could be improved upon. In saying that though, experiencing your first Rift is an amazing experience. Its a great idea that breaks up the daily grind and gives you an opportunity to team up with players and earn rewards.

I played few beta events of RIFT... PVE is kinda booooring. PVP is like WOW. But the graphic is nice.
The price per month is to big.
