DiRT 3 Preview (XBOX 360) @ GH

DiRT 3 Preview (XBOX 360)

When DiRT 2 was released in 2009 it received positive reviews with this site scoring it 93/100 and praising the game for its vast range of events, vehicles and modes which were mixed with pick up and play controls. Since then Codemasters have been busy working on a follow-up and this month that hits the shelves in the form of DiRT 3 and weve had a chance to play through the first year of the Career mode as well as a few multiplayer races...

Re: DiRT 3 Preview (XBOX 360) @ GH

They should split up the game into two. One that is rally driving and one that is motorstorm+nail'd+fast and the whatever.

I wonder how good the Rally driving this time will be, but I am ready for disappointment. I read so many good things about Dirt 2 and that was a huge let down for me. At least in the Rally races, the cars felt like they were hovercrafts with anchor for breaks. Yes, better than Dirt 1, but still terrible.
So far the videos I have seen of the Rally sections are with tracks about 2-3 min long, which is a fail on its own. Don't get me started on this Gymkhana thing... I hope they release the demo soon.
The graphics I am sure will be great for one more time.
Not a good time to be a Rally gaming fan.

Re: DiRT 3 Preview (XBOX 360) @ GH

It's a pretty bad game in my opinion. Most of the tracks/sprints are variations of the same 4-8 miles of track. I've had one event where the first race was the second race backwards and at night. Graphics are really good and so is the sound, but there's too much gameplay and not enough variation. If I wanted a repetitive game that made me hack away at the same crap over and over, I'd get the first Transformers' movie game.

Not worth the buy and not worth my time. I should've known Codemasters would mess up this game as well.

eek if you think that about the regular game, really really really don't buy the Monte-Carlo track pack

I like it, I have to say.
It's far from perfect, but the single player is engaging enough that I keep coming back to it when I have the odd 20 mins free, and split-screen 2 player is our new favourite family fun time thing

I really do like the driving, don't get me wrong. I just wish there was more road to race on. The only way I would enjoy so few tracks is if I was playing an actual simulator. In an arcade game, there has to be more track. I can't remember if it was in DiRT 1 or 2, but they had the whole Pikes Peak climb. That was good.. Not good, AWESOME! The physics sucked, but I loved the long tracks.

As I said, the driving is fun. It's not as arcadey as I thought it would be, although the brakes are still WAY too strong for off-road cars.

Have you noticed the inconsistency in the difficulty of bonus objectives between modes like Trailblazer and rally as opposed to the lap races? The objectives in the rallies are so easy while some of the laptimes they want us to get in Rallycross or things like it are almost unattainable.

While I'm ranting, I want to add that the menu navigation is so annoyingly slow. There's no way to skip the commentary and all the flashy transitions on the menus makes switching events and windows unnecessarily sluggish.

Also, Gymkhana and the modes related to it are extremely difficult to get platinum on. Maybe it's just my preferred style of driving. I guess I can also blame the slow input system that all Codemasters games have (At least with my controller). It's not built for fast, technical driving.

I should be an all-negativity game reviewer like that one dude that talks really fast. Except, I won't be as funny or popular.

Is there much difference between the 360 and pc? Was looking at getting this maybe but mixed on the reviews, I'm not sure yet.

you can pick up the 360 version for around 17 quid or so a few places now, it's pretty damn good for that frankly

Re: DiRT 3 Preview (XBOX 360) @ GH

lol thanks Veridian3, I should have clarified that I was wondering if there were many differences between the 360 version and PC as I don't have an xbox at all. It looks like I might just pick it up regardless though as it looks fun and I need something else to play. WoW is getting old along with CoD and Rainbow six series of games.
