Finally
at this stage you can slide the top and bottom of
the case apart and reveal the metal Faraday cage that
the 360's innards live inside.
You
need to remove 6 long screws with the Allen key provided,
these are used to attach the top part of the case
to the Faraday cage to secure it. Once they are undone
(counter clockwise) you can remove the top of the
case, which also removes the top of the Faraday cage.
See the pictures below for where the 6 screws are
located.
You
could at this point check inside for dust / dead rats
or anything else that may be lurking inside your 360
that needs removing. Mine was dust (and rat) free
which is surprising to me considering how dusty my
PC gets. I took the time to add a replacement fan
kit to my 360 (a mini review of which will come later).
The
last major step to do is to take off the Top half
of the Faraday cage from the top half of the old white
360 shell. Mine was secured with a couple of splodges
of melted plastic but they were easy to remove with
a pair of needle nosed pliers so that the cage came
free.
At
this point it is best to fit the new black eject button.
It is very easy to fit, as it just unclips from the
front of the console and put on the replacement. With
all the major parts existing old white case removed
it is just a matter of reversing the steps but substituting
the new black case instead. It's much easier to clip
it all back together than taking it apart in the first
place.
When
placing the top of the Faraday cage back on make sure
none of the metal edges get bent out of shape as that
could potentially give you issues with putting the
sides back on.
