multi user setup issue

I have my own DSP setting, but it is resetted everytime, when I switch user. I must therefor load DSP setting whenever I come back to my workspace.

I have MS Windows XP, driver 3538j (but same behaviour was with 3537).

Is there some solution to this problem? It is quite annoying. Thanks.

Somebody else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that if you have a custom DSP that you use that isn't coming up, you can save your setup as kxdefault.kx and then your custom setup should appear at startup.

I believe that if you need the default DSP setting in the future, you can just right click the DSP and choose "Reinitial DSP" and get that setup back.

There is probably another way around this but I have never had that problem so I haven't looked into it.

Are you using Fast User Switching?

When kX starts, it restores the settings from the registry. Since different user accounts use a different registry key, it should restore the correct config for each user account, but with Fast User Switching I do not think it is not going to save your current settings and perform the normal startup process when you switch users, so kx's settings would be in some undefined state. I cannot be sure of this, but you probably should not user Fast User Switching with kX.

I have an issue like this too, how do you set the defualt setup in the DSP windows to be something you want.

On one of the computers at work everyone has their own Roaming Profile (windows xp pro)and when they log in for the first time or have to reset their profile for some reason they only get the "factory" settings which then means the card dosnt work like it should.

How do you set the "factory" settings to be something that you want them to be, so someone new to the computer gets those settings.. without having to go thru the load settings in the DSP window

I think the "factory" settings, are the kX installation default settings and you cannot change that.

Again, the settings are saved to the registry whenever kxmixer is closed and/or unloaded, and are restored (from the registry) at Windows startup (when you log on).

The settings are stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive, so each user should have there own settings (provided that kX was installed for each user seperately (from that user account)). This should be the same with roaming profiles, as that registry hive is included with the profile. Also, kxmixer must be started with Windows, from the RUN key in the registry, with the --startup command line switch, or it will not restore the settings, and they will have to be loaded manually.

Again, things like Fast User Switching should probably not be used, because when you switch to a user that is allready logged on, the RUN key will not be used and kX will not restore its settings for that user (it will likely use the settings from the user that you switched from).

Technically, kX does not currenly support multiple user accounts, but theoretically it should work provided you install kX seperately for each user, and you fully log off the current user before a different user logs on, etc.

Hmm.. that dosnt really help. Its more so a user who hasnt used the computer with KX in it befor and who dosnt know how to load a saved setup gets a usable predefined setup.

can you put a string in the registry in say "run" after the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\kxmixer.exe --startup" saying load default.kx assuming that is the one you want everyone to have.

Yes, Im using Fast User Switching and it is a feature I need to use.

What I found:
DSP is initialized, when user logs in.
However. Sometimes when second user log in, DSP is one mess. Once it happend to me, that high frequency unpleasent tone was heard from speakers.

Each user has his own settings.

DSP is not changed, when user remains logged and I switch to another logged user. But what user see in DSP settings is NOT what is currently set.

Workaround to this:
Save desired DSP settings to a file, which all users can see (and read). Log to each account and load previously saved settings.
This way same DSP settings will be load for each user on startup. At least until some of them change these settings ;-)

I would appreciate, if kx team will try to correct this issue. It wouldn't mind to me, if settings would be same to all users, but all users will se current settings.
