Sorry for the question
Sorry for the stupid question but I've just wasted the better part of 3 hours trying to find an answer... And I can't....
Ok, I've been using the KX drivers for the past 3 years with my digital surround speakers (3.5mm jack input) and a SB 5.1 live card... Worked fantastic and never had a problem... Til now. I've just upgraded computers to a 64bit cpu (dual-core AMD) and wanted to get sound from my surround and discovered the KX doesn't support 64bit. Now, my on-board realtek works fine with headphones but the surround will only work with a digital signal and the SB card used to supply that. When I wanted to listen to my headphones, I just toggled the realtek card in the cpanel and when I wanted surround I'd toggle the SB card with KX drivers because the KX drivers would allow me to have 'digital output'. My problem now is that whilst the realtek works fine, I can't use the surround at all. I have the SB 64bit drivers installed and seem to be working, but since I can't find a place to toggle digital output, nothing is coming through. I'm a complete n00b with audio tech (like that doesnt' come across in this post, eh? ) so I'm just hoping someone here will be either able to tell me how to get digital output through the native SB 64bit drivers or point me in the direction of a 3rd party driver pack like KX that allows the ability to toggle digital output.Thank you in advance! |

In any case:
If you did not change the OS, kX should still work. If you are using WinXP 64 Bit: I do not know much about it, but you should use the Creative Labs 64 Bit driver, and I *think* you need to use the 32 Bit application software from your installation CD. |

sorry, thought it was implied that I was running XP64... My fault, it was late when I posted and already burnt out from looking!
![]() Just tried to install the 32bit software and it's telling me that I have to have the latest version of the drivers. Which I do... They're just the 64bit ones! ![]() I really don't want to downgrade back to 32bit just so I can use my soundcard when this one works... I just need a way to toggle the digital output! |

It sounds like you ran the main setup program on the CD, instead of the individual setup programs for the application software. Try running the individual setup programs for any applications that want (i.e. Surround Mixer).

ahh, that might be the problem then... The soundcard is old, thus I do not have the installation cd any longer and am trying to install software from Creative's support section. The 64bit section only has the driver, so I used the 32bit section and downloaded
Quote:
"This installation requires that you have the latest version of Sound Blaster Live! DriverPack installed on your system. Please download and install this before continueing". So, I either have to tear apart my loft looking for the old install cds, find someone with an installation cd, or bin the card and just use the realtek card... All because I can't toggle the bloody digital output!

The original CD is probably your best bet, but if you cannot find it, you might want to check out the following thread from the Creative Labs forum:

I was just looking at the LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG) and it does contain the Surround Mixer.
Just extract the contents of the archive and run the setup for the Surround Mixer, and see if that works for you (LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG)\Audio\Surmix2). |

Thanks for that... The livedrvuni-pack didn't work... It installed properly where the others failed, but when trying to run the program it gave errors, even when compatibility was changed to XP32....
Downloading the ISO of the cd now, will let you know if it works. Thanks again for all your help |

Sorry to hear that. I am not sure if the Surround Mixer has any dependancies on any of the other Creative applications or not (i.e. Audio HQ, etc). Hopefully you will fair better using the CD (maybe try running the full setup, and install everything except the drivers (if possible)).

Nope, it was a no go... Everything installed ok and programs opened and ran properly. Digital toggled but nothing...
I reckon that the software 'converses' with the driver and since I'm using a driver that isn't part of the program, it doesn't know who to talk to... Now, I either have to get non-digital speakers, a new card with 64bit software, find a 3rd party project like KX (how I wish it was being developed for 64bit) that handles 64bit, or revert to XP32 (which won't happen since I've noticed a 50% performance increase) . Oh well, thank you again... Off on my sojourn of disappointment again... 64bit technology has been out for over 3 years, why is it so hard to find appropriate software for it?

Thats too bad. Have you tried it with analog speakers (i.e. walkman headphones or anything), just to make sure the driver actually works with your card (all channels, etc)?
I think that driver is still a beta, so maybe they will release an updated (fully working) version soon (although I wouldn't hold my breath). |
