Where can I check my soudblaster model? I'm looking at the kX Soundblaster Compatibility List and I see way to many SB Live 5.1's. My audio in windows mixer says SB Live! Audio [C000] I'm thinking it's one of these:
SB010x - supported SB022x - partialy supported SB0060 -supported SB020x -unsupported

The long serial number (printed in a sticker on card surface) starting like M0SB0102xxxxxxxxxx tells the real model number.

If it is a retail model, look at the serial number (should be on a sticker on the back of the card, and on a sticker on the box that the card came in (if you still have it)). Look for the SB0xxx part of the serial number.
Also, on the front of the card, in the top right corner, there is often writing directly on the board, indicating the model family (not necessarily the specific model number). |

Normally they are SB0221, SB0222/SB224, SB0228, SB0226, SB0223 or SB0229 The real serial number is printed on a sticker you can check, if there are certain models which are supported partially. jiitee |

Their are no stickers anywhere and that's what it says on the card itself, there's a little sticker that says SB Live! 5.1 digital. I can't find any documentation/manuals for it and the back of the card shows nothing but input-jacks, and midi.

When I said back of the card, I meant the back face of the card (i.e. the side opposite from the side with the EMU10k1 chip, and the writing that you see (not the area with the jacks)).
Without the sticker, it is not easy to figure out the specific model. Last edited by Russ; Mar 7, 2006 at 11:21 PM. |

SB0220 models do exist, they were probably the first run of the series

And what do you guys really mean about partialy supported, will it work just with bugs/glitches? |

afaik all SB022x models are similiar, so yes it will be partially supported (maybe fully with the latest releases, please report)
partially supported just means there may be issues, with your card the rear and or center/sub outputs not working correctly

They are all mostly working with the lastest kX release.
The are however some differnces with the different models. Some SB022x models are more like the previous 5.1 models (with a 4 channel codec, and the I2S codec for the analog rear), while some use a single 6 channel codec (I would guess that the one's that do not have the front panel connector use the single 6 channel codec). The ones with the 6 channel codec are the one's that people were having probelms with, but unfortunately the process of trying to get them working correctly, caused some problems with the other models (that were previously working). In any case, I think 3538j got most of that sorted out, (there still seem to be a couple of issues, with my card at least (SB0228), but nothing major (for me anyway)). |

BTW: Sometimes there is a board revision number printed on the card that would indicate the model number.
i.e. On the back face of my card, at the top (the opposite end from where it plugs into the PCI slot), there is black print (it is hard to see because of the color of the board) which reads: 2810D447A. When you combine the model number printed on the card (1st two digits) with the 1st two digits of this number, it should indicate the specific model. So for my card: Model SB0220 (printed on the front face of the card, at the top) and the 28 (1st two digits of the above number) = SB0228, which matches up with my serial number. That info is taken from here. Last edited by Russ; Mar 8, 2006 at 04:25 PM. |
