Audio Hardware - Who's Got Any?
I know there's a few regulars here on the kX forum with a bit of Audio hardware (TravelRec comes to mind immediately here
), but I'm interested in what sort of gear you have. Mics, Mixers, Synths, Samplers, Guitars anything really.I have a couple of small mixers, a Behringer UB802 and more recently, a Soundcraft Compact4 My Mic collection is quite small, a Sennheiser Evolution 817 and an AKG D58 I also have a bit of DJ Equipment, two Stanton T.80 Turntables and a Tascam XS-3 Mixer My headphones are the Sony V6 Studio Monitors, and i'm very impressed with them, and I have a pair of Edirol MA-10D BK Micro-Monitors I think that's all the outboard gear I have atm, aside from multitudes of different cables, but I put a deposit on a Korg microKORG Analogue Modelling Synthesizer/Vocoder earlier today, along with a carry bag for it… shall be interesting to finally have a hardware synth to mess around with when i do get it And i may be picking up a Behringer FCA202 Firewire Audio Interface tomorrow or Friday, for when I get a laptop, or if I need to record in 24/96 - I am definately NOT giving up kX at all, but I am aiming to get a Mac at the end of the year so it'd be nice to have a semi-pro soundcard for that one aswell well that's my overly short list of current and future hardware, your turn now

Back in the day...I used to have a fair bit of gear. But marriage and what-not means virtually everything is virtual now.
:-( Stashed in the loft I still have:- Teac 3440 reel to reel Revox 2 track reel to reel Yamaha DX21 (keep trying to get it past my wife into "my" room :-D ) Mini Korg 700s Shure SM57 Alexis Midiverb Thrown out about 1 year back:- Crummar Multiman (string synth kinda thing) M&M 16:2 mixer (Micky Mouse!) Lots of Alpha Dac modular analogue stuff. I now just have:- PC (3000XP, 1G DDR, XFX6800GT) Audigy 2 Value + SBLive (not fitted) Creative I-Trigue 3400 "bass bin" with some Sony Hi-Fi speakers in place of the Creative spkers Sony MDR-V600 headphones Roland PC-160 2.5 octave mini keyboard BR JN |

Behringer , lovely kit!
Hi DJ_stick, got a behringer europower pmh1000 powered mixer recently, mainly for doing gigs, but it works really well in my recording setup. I've got the main out going into the analog stereo input on the SB live and one of the stereo outs on the SB going into the PA insert on the mixer so the computer is effectively in a loop from the mixer . I've also got a Roland VS840 which records onto ZIP discs but the ZIP drive packed up years ago so I use it as a mixer, running the optical out into the SBlive. This means I effectively have a 24 channel into 4 bus mixer which works very nicely recording into Cubase. I am extremely impressed with Behringer gear and have my eye on several of their products for future purchases.

I got just my pc (Audigy 2ZS, Live! in it), lots if speakers ( a cheap 5.1 system, a selfmade speaker, some old but good hifispeakers, and amps between the pc and the system that were so cheap they arent produced anymore). The only thing that is of any kind worth to be named is the korg multieffekt i use, and the yamaha (whatever) pacifica guitar

Hey DJ!
Nice thread but: it is not the hardware that makes a difference between one and another musician and/or sound freak. It is the kind of working with to get all the best out of the equipment. Sure, some things are very helpful (kX and a compatible card for example) but nothing to be proud of - except you made a thing for yourself... my opinion. Greetings anyway! TravelRec. |

I agree there TravelRec, I was just wondering who has some outboard gear, and how they use it (or even how they use kX)
i mean, give 5 people the same combination of gear, each of them will use it in a unique way to create their sound

I have my PC with a SB400 installed, still working on the SB102 for a DSP..after that I have a Yorkvile AP512 Powered Mixer, A digitech RP100 Modelling guitar mutlieffects processor.
ADC sound shaper Freq. Analyzer and stereo EQ.SS-100SL Kenwood Dual cassette Deck Technics single tray CD player. Kramer Vanguard Metal Red Flying V.. I mention the stero components becuase they are part of my "gear" setup on my desk. I love outboard gear. I have my eye on a delta 1010LT, a SHure SM57 and a few other things..etc MY Live! sb102 I want to use it for adding effects to the mixer either on the channel inserts or the EFX AUX send..either is a great use for a old SB running KX...thats about it. |

you make a good point there, kX would be really useful for FX processing
i plan to purchase a mac at the end of the year, and dedicated that to music production on Logic, but with my kX system having 8 inputs and 14 outputs, using my pc as an FX "tower" (as opposed to rack ) would be quite possible

I have channel inserts on my mixer so I have a old SB Live 5.1, a few patch cords and I have two channels with dedicated FX or I have a AUX Fx send/return that I can use...it should work great...
since KX is so light on resources this is a secondary soundcard and will have no connection to my recording software..I hope that makes sense..I might even use My audigy as it has 2X the resources..I will be using a delta for recording...stick your really gonna get a Mac?..r u sure about that? I understand what you want to do though, you could program alot of FX patches and have them at your finger tips. I think this is a new way to use KX cards. Even older Lives! still have merit if used in this fashion. Load a older PC up with older model KX compatible cards and you could have a great FX processor.. OK I am actually going to install the Live tommorow along with my audigy2 I will see how it works and let you know.. COuld be a project for the forum as alot of guys have older cards around, that is guys who are using mixers.. Last edited by ROBSCIX; Mar 9, 2006 at 11:26 PM. |

my goal is to have a dedicated music machine, and have my other machine do everything else that i normally do, so it makes sense that i get a mac in the end, it'll cost a bit extra (not so much with a student discount) but i think it's worth it

Stick, I see why you want a mac because of software..wouldn't it be easier to switch apps. and stick with a platform you know? I used to work for Mac tech support..believe me they aren't as stable as people think they go down for alot of weird reason..or just nothing....and you lose your HDD..so I say again are you sure? I know everybody says they don't have any issues like the PC's but if they didn't I wouldn't have had about 30 calls a day..issues solved...Oh yes I was good.

I'll pipe in, I've needed to compile a list anyways...
One great PC., One great laptop. Several not-so-great PCs all with a SB Live, an additional decent laptop.. Many pen drives, a couple enclosures. One great monitor for color management, a couple junk ones. Five pairs of crappy speakers all over the house, Eosone 5.1 - all for making sure translations are on target. The most killer, over the top, completely efficient, disaster prepared, smartly slimmed down, and considerably awesome OS setups and optimizations for music and art production. Kurzweil 2000 Keyboard Korg M1 Keyboard Bluesky Mediadesk 2.1 nearfield monitors Digitech DSP16 Effects Rackable Marantz PMD720 8 channel mixer/ 4 track tape EMU 1616m Audigy 2 Platinum An AudioBuddy Rode NT1-A Mic Sony MDR-7506 Headphones A Recorder, Penny whistle, Harmonica, Shakers, Kazoo, Cymbals, Clackers, Triangle, Woodblocks, Tambourine, with a whole house-full of ideas. and... Canon EOS 300D for all the cool pictures. Wacom Intuos 2 4x5 for all the cool edits. Epson Perfection 4490 for all the cool scans. Epson R800 for all the cool prints. And finally me, for if it weren't for me this amazing yet affordable setup would not be possible... The only thing I truly need anymore.. is space! Psuper! |

re the mac thing we have a few post suites at work with macs and they are a real pain when something goes wrong, and it does for no reason than you looked at if funny (ok PC's do that to but there are lots of pc specialists in the place).
We have a Promos suite which just makes 30 tv ads, and the use Nuendo with an RME card, running on a PC, as well as a bunch of other toys to. but Nuendo works just as well with a kx setup which is what we have on our test hack machine. I also have a KX setup in one of the live studios for music and fx playback and that works great. The point im getting to, PC is the better way to go. Protools is now writen for a pc and ported to mac OS. but protools is overpriced for the service they dont give. but PC's are way cheaper for something with more grunt. another good platform / software is the Pyramix system HTML Code:

Yea man, to me the art/photos/video is just as much a part of my music as anything, from inspiration to visual expression. The 350D I wanted to get for my wife, but she really doesn't take many pictures, and it will be easier to swallow a camera "upgrade" in a couple more years. hah!
And yea nice phones man, looks like we both do our research. ![]() It never ends tho, this collection of ours.. one day it's another flash card, a new protective bag, some lenses, 88 weighted keys controller and/or many knobbed rotary controller, extra ink, another "must have" software, color coded cables, on and on *laugh*. Oh well, guess that's why I don't smoke, drink, buy new cars, follow fads, eat out all the time, shine my shoes, or generally waste a cent on stuff I cant use over and over "most" of the time. I'm not too much of a square; I do enjoy life, but with all the stuff I enjoy most in life... Family, then Music followed by Computing... Psuper! |

mmm yes, ever buying of gear
yet i don't bother with coloured cables, i just have generic hosa gold plated cables (nice quality though) and a black marker to label which is which, speaking of which i have a shipment of such cables arriving soon (hopefully) along with an SM Pro Audio PR4v Mic Preamp Unit.
