PROBLEM: optical out in 5.1/playback on other speakers also..

Hey guys,

I have a creative audigy 2ZS platinum soundcard, which has a creative 2.1 system coming out of the single 3.5mm socket on the back.

I also own a sony 5.1 surround sound kit connected with an optical lead to my pc.

With my creative drivers I had come to understand without any additional hardware, i could not send 5.1 signal to my cinema kit as they are different technologys (EAX and dolby digital), which I had accepted, so used it in stereo.

I got kX for improvements in audio quality when mixing, however in speaker test I noticed that it was sending seperate signals to my rear and front speakers, I was really excited thinking I had found software that somehow supported 5.1 output, until I realise it had left and right the wrong way round.

Assuming it was only a switch somewhere that needed clicking, I tweaked and tweaked, but to no avail - and have even more messed up settings than before, whatever I try i have the wrong speaker signal coming out of the wrong speakers on my cinema kit, it's like a game of hide and seek with a program I do not really understand.

What is worse, is that no signal whatsover is going into my 2.1 system either.

What I want is:

- A stereo signal to my pc's creative 2.1 speakers

- and -

- A signal (ideally 5.1/surround, but stereo will do) via optical to my cinema kit

Can you please help?!

Thank you very much

Update

I have sorted the 2.1 system, the 'toggle front and rear' mode did the job.

The problem still very much remains on the optical output though.

Help would be much appreciated, thanks..

Just like with the Creative drivers, you cannot get 5.1 over your optical connection, unless it is compressed (i.e. Dolby Digital). The reason you are hearing seperate sounds from the front and rear in the speaker test, is most likely because you have Surround ON, which is basically just mixing them, but it is still just stereo.

As for left and right being swapped, I am not sure why that would be, but you should be able to easily fix that in DSP window, by reversing the wires from Surrounder+ (fL and fR (the top 2 wires)) to epilog's out2 and out3 (3rd and 4th pins).
