Audigy2 Value (SB0400) SPDIF out with KX ?

Hi i was wondering if it's somehow possible to get a signal from the A2Value's SPDIF out using the KX driver? It works fine with the creative driver and a plain old mono plug (wired to CD_SPDIF on my SB0090), but i just can't get it to work using KX.

I recall reading something about SPDIF troubles with this card. Has anyone managed to get it to work?

cheers

No SPDIF troubles with the card itself, itīs a routing issue with kX that canīt be fixed due to less information about the card. Iīm sure it can be fixed any day. Stay tuned

Thanks for the reply TravelRec, i'm looking forward to having greater control over the DSP on this card... I'm using it as a slave card to my sb0090 for extra inputs. The sb0400 is working with the creative driver at the moment whilst the sb0090 is working with KX 3538j.

It does the job fine now with the creative driver and gives me an extra stereo input via CD_SPDIF on the sb0090... but as we all know the creative driver is CRAP and I can't do things such as route AC97 MIC to one channel and AC97 LINE to the other channel. I also can't use the higher quality codec for a lower SNR with CT driver. Not to mention effects and stuff. My kx sb0090's DSP recources are running out as my configuration(s) becomes more complicated. It'd be great to put some of the load onto the sb0400.

So hopefully A2Value's SPDIF routing issues will be resolved soon!

I'd also like to add that KX ROCKS! My computer is a 9 track recording machine! (unless audigy1drive's MIC_IN_2/LINE_IN_2 can be made stereo somehow?, then it would be 10!)

Mic/Line 2 - IS stereo on mine.... I think... now Ill have to test it to make sure... but I think you have to turn the VOL knob to the full CCW position...

ha!

well whad'ya know! it is stereo! thanks maddogg

If you turn the knob all the way down (ccw), then force it a little bit more it goes "click", switching from mono pre-amped mic mode... to stereo line mode! silly me

so now i've got

1 line left
2 line right
3 aux left
4 aux right
5 line2 left
6 line2 right
7 aux2 left
8 aux2 right
9 cd_spdif left
10 cd_spdif right

woohoo!

And if my stupid REALTEK motherboard sound driver would let me hear line in on it's spdif out I could have another 2 inputs via front spdif.

your realtek onboard sound should allow that (i know mine does)

hi dj_stick

i downloaded the latest realtek driver a while ago (couple of months ago i guess)
and i couldn't for the life of me get a "live" signal from spdif. WAV was fine, that worked perfectly but obviously it is of no use to me for extra inputs. Now i have the onboard audio disabled in bios because of it's apparent uselessness... but if you know of a driver version that lets me do what i want that would be brilliant!

hmm, seeing as though im not at home right now i can't even check to tell you what chip i've even got! sorry, can't remember... ill post it as soon as i can. Would be great if anyone could help me out here... I'm greedy, I want 12 inputs now! lol

you should be able to set your mobo sound up so that you send the input straight to the output

in the windows mixer or realtek app in the playback section, make sure the line in is un-muted and the fader is up

what realtek chip have you got dj_stick? mine is the ALC650E. I just enabled it again and had another play around with windows mixer and the realtek app... still no line_in or mic on spdif out, even though wav sources appear. There's no option anywhere asfaik to enable it and i've made sure to turn up and unmute the sources. The signal appears (as expected) at the boards analog out, just not at the spdif out. Stupid thing! I bet you've got a different chip or something.

I just thought of something to try though...

I'll locate the boards analog cd in pins and try that as an input... maybe the driver will route that to digital out... It would make sense for people's cd's to play (then again... it would also make sense for people's mic's and line's to work). I'll give it a shot and let ya'll know what happens.

when i tested, i was using the ALC655, a similiar revision to your chip…

you may have to enable or switch on the SPDIF output within the Realtek mixer app

okay well that doesn't work either... i tried the boards cd_in and aux_in connectors... both can be heard through the boards analog out and neither can be heard through spdif. I also noticed that when playing a wav through the realtek and hearing it via spdif that the realtek mixer main volume control, pan and mute have no effect. Looks like i need another ADC to get my 12 inputs coz the software that drives this one is crap!

As for the actual topic of this thread... I'm still looking forward to spdif out working on my sb0400 with KX. And when it does (or for a card that currently does) will i have any trouble sending a signal from my sb0090 to spdif in, adding a bunch of effects and sending it back to the sb0090 via cd_spdif? i don't see why not ey? That way i could take some load off my sb0090's DSP and have my complex guitar and bass monitoring effects done elseware...

Yeah but there is no option to do this! I've tried for hours looking for a way to do it.

Doesn't matter that much... the SNR of this motherboard is so bad anyway, i'm better off just getting an external pre-amp with spdif out.... know of any good (cheap) one's?

Just to update...

I got the realtek ALC650's spdif out to work, using the latest nForce2 driver for my mobo. This one actually has a "digitize input" checkbox! Not that it worked right away though... I was pretty upset coz it still did nothing even when selected... until finally i selected "analog 5.1 speakers" from the speaker setup tab and it worked! (huuh ???????) Stupid thing, you only get a digital output if you select this 1 particular ANALOG mode. Anyway i'm not using it as an extra input for recording, instead i have my TV card audio plugged in to the mobo and sending it to my audigy via spdif. This way i can use the TV's volume control which i couldn't work out how to do with a KX device.
