recording HQ does nothing

this has been plaguing me for about..a year now..as long as i've been running kx drivers and the main reason it's bothering me is becuase it's preventing me from doing the one thing with this card that i bought it for in the first place.

i do a lot of vinyl remastering..or well, i did. that was till i installed the kx drivers and can't get 96/24 recording to work. I've selected everying in the p16v recording source....adjusted levels...and nothing picks up audio on the input. I've hit a wall...i need this to work or otherwise this entire setup is useless to me.

I've got one of the early SB audigy 2 platnium's..SB0240..now the kx drivers see the livedrive without a problem...all the proper volumes are there..spdif status changes when i unplug the dvr optical...i'm listening to the analog input right now...i just can't record from it in 96/24 using HQ, i've even wired directly to the recl and recr and can't get anything...however, if i select 0/1 as my recording device, magically the audio appears.

This raises a question...is the livedrive even capeable of doing 96/24 in/out at all? I did notice that if i select WaveHQ playback..the headphone jack stops functioning (may have been the way i had things in the DSP wired)...do i have to use HQ device to get that, or if i've cleared my DSP and have things "wired-direct" will that give me 96/24 using 0/1.

Mind you...all i want to do right now is record from the RCA analog inputs on the live drive (Aux 2)

i'm getting tired of having to boot a second install of XP just to use the crashy CL drivers.

Some notes on 24/96 as I understand it...

THE DSP has NO AFFECT on 24/96 - the P16V is a device that bypasses the DSP to avoid the mandatory resampling to 16/48. The P16V plugin is in the DSP so we can force the 16/48 conversion and use the DSP to process wave HQ playback. The REC L/R on epilog will have NO affect.

The 26/96 router - is where we are 'supposed' to be able to select the SINGLE 24/96 playback output to use (the drop down - which has , 4/5 - frony, 6/7 - Center/LFE, 8/9 - Rear & Hph (Headphones)

BUT - theres a bug in 3538j that makes 24/96 out put possible on the 4/5 - front outputs only.
This bug may exist earlier as I more recently got a grip on the whole 24/96 stuff in KX)

I HAVE successfuly recorded 24/96 with KX in Sonar using WDM drivers - as ASIO isnt supporting 24/96 (yet ??)

So, If I were to record the AUX 2 inputs from my Livedrive - I need to select 'I2S 2' from the P16V record source on the KX mixer Master Page - then in the host, select wave HQ for the recording device - set to 96 Khz & 24 bit (Note: In sonar I need to use 32 bit - still only 24 bit resolution tho)

KX doesnt seem to like to take record source changes while the wave hq device is in use. So make sure you select the record source before opening the recording host SW for 'less headache'.
I had problems finding out what I2S device was for what jacks - just trying a drop down doesnt seemwork to figure this very well.

Make sure the P16V -> I2S is enabled to hear wave HQ playback in 24/96 format - or use the P16V plugin in the DSP to process the 16/48 resampled streams.

Hope that helps...

ok, i'm fully aware of what the p16v does and how it bypasses the DSP. that's not my issue..the epilog stuff i was trying because, as i said, i had hit a wall for the last year or so.

i did notice the HQ device doesn't like being messed with while active...and as a result right now my card is stuck in Direct SPDIF mode...which i might add when i tried everything recorded 2x speed regardless of what the spdif source rate and recording rate was.

back to 96/24...i'll have to set p16v to I2S 2 and reinitalize everything...maybe that'll work.

I did get waveHQ to record from directspdif by putting it in Coaxial mode....and of course like the previous spdif recorde attempts....2x speed.

i'm just playing around with settings trying to see what works

ok, here's a strange thing for ya.

rebooted the system and put the p16v in i2s 2...set my program to HQ device...tried to record in 96/24....silence...tried to record in 48/24 from the HQ device...audio.

in short....96/24 isn't working properly....maybe the i2s codecs on the live drive don't provide 96/24?

What SW are you using to record? - maybe its a limitation of the SW ??
It seems that, if you DO record but it playsback at 2X speed - its actually 16/48 - playing back at 96 Khz (48 x 2 = 96) - which makes me think - you actually recorded 16/48 and not 24/96.

I'll assume Im wrong tho....
Have you been reporting this bug so the developers will be informed??

i'm using Goldwave or Audition for record..both are i believe WinMM or WDM.

the thing is..it's 2x speed REGARDLESS of what i'm recording or inputting..i could be inputting 48/20....and recording at 48khz...and it's still 2x...the only way i can actually make it work is to record at 96/24 then adjust the playback rate to 48 (or whatever the source was, not converting the sample rate..but modifying the playback rate)

i still can't get anything to record from the aux2 input with HQ in 96/24
