DSP setup and ASIO
hi all,
got kinda 2 problems/questions: bout a year ago i posted frequently on the forums when i was first getting into the kx project. Eventually got everything working.. however recently i have had to reformat the computer and stupidly forgot to save my dsp settings. I use Sonar 4 and have an Audigy Platinum soundcard but for the past year have not used ASIO (yeh i know u must all think i'm crazy!) and thought now that i have to rebuild the dsp that this would be a good oportunity to start using ASIO. However, all my saved projects do not play cos they're in a different format. I get the "Unable to open audio record device. Device may not support the current project's audio format or may be in use." Is there any way round this? Having decided that there probably wasn't.. i decided to to try and rebuild the settings that i had... at least for now. But when i built it, it doesn't work. This is the site i have based mine on http://www.geocities.com/kxsonar/kxsonar.htm. ur prob familiar with it. I think watever i'm doing wrong is likely to be really straight forward because at the moment i can't hear audio at all (say in win. media player) but i can if i have the default kx dsp settings (so its def something wrong with my dsp setup). When i double click on the MX6 from the dsp i can see the meter going up and down if i have things connected to the line in 2 (the one at the front of my audigy soundcard) but theres no sound. I can record wat i'm doing in sonar but can't play it back on the current dsp settings. Any ideas? Any help greatly appreciated!! thanx again please help |

1) finish the project using WDM driver - like you were. 2) Export the audio clips - make a new project, copy & paste MIDI track data into a new project AFTER setting sonars default project sample rate and bit depth to 16/48 3) IF you were using 16/44 in your last project - you can try setting KX ASIO to use THAT sample rate - but with KX ASIO set to this - recording is no longer available. But bouncing and exporting should still work. Quote:
Set windows default playback device (Sound and Audio control panel applet) to KX WAVE 0/1 or KX Wave 4/5 - then, those signals played in WM will be available on FXBuss 0/1 and 4/5 respectively. Which are setup in the guide you linked to (Wave 1 & ASIO 4/5) SHown here http://www.geocities.com/kxsonar/kxs...es/MYSETUP.jpg |

Thankyou Maddogg6 for your quick reply.. certainly helped clearing up a few things with regards to changing to ASIO.

the only thing else I can think of is make sure you have:
1) set the 'Swap Front <> Rear' set properly 2) Make sure you have your speakers connected to the correct jack on the card. |

It would really be helpful if you could post a screenshot of your DSP window.
What do you have set as the default device for sound playback (Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel)? What do you have set as the default device for sound playback in WMP (Options -> Devices -> Speakers - Properties)? Are you using the default kX Router settings? |

My default sound playback device is set to kX Wave SB0090 10k2 [df80] 0/1 I'm not sure how to check if i'm using the default kX router settings... but i haven't fiddled with that so i assume that it would be the default. Quote:
If 1) is referring to the Toggle 'Swap Front and Rear' mode in the kX mixer then that box is definately not checked. 2) there are various outputs for the card.. at the moment it is connected to the line out. I could change it to Analog/Digital out.. however it works fine if i have the dafault kX project dsp settings and i usually use headphones anyway which would mean that if i'm listening through them then where i have the speaker outputs would make no difference would it? thanx again... really hope u guys can work it out!! |

Well your DSP looks ok.
I would guess that kX Router is using the default settings if you did not touch it. You know you are getting a signal into the DSP, since you can see it on the VU meter in MX6 and can record it. That seems to only leave the physical connections to the card, as Maddogg6 mentioned. My guess would be that you are connected to the rear line out, and not the front, and thus toggle Swap Front and Rear should be enabled (this it how the default dsp is configured, and a reason why you could hear it using the defaults, but not now). Have you tried enabling that option? |

Did you verify that you could still see the signal on the MX6 VU meter when you toggled that option?
Have you double checked all the volume levels (Master/Front/Rear/Wave/Synth, etc) to make sure nothing is muted and the volume is up for all channels (on the 'Master' and 'Ins and Outs' pages of kxmixer)? Try clicking on the 'Reset AC97' button on the 'AC97' page on kxmixer. |

Ok, lets start at the beginning...
That picture in the attachment of your post is definatley the picture of your DSP, right? How many speakers do you have connected to the soundcard? You positively still (i.e. save you current config, and try it again) get sound with the default DSP setup, right (with Swap Front and Rear enabled)? Try making a second connection from MX6's main out to the rear inputs of epilog and see if that does anything. |

BTW: Your are listening through speakers connected to the rear of the card, and not headphones connected to the drive bay, right?

If your headphones are connected to the drive bay, then you need to make that connection to epilog as well (Heaphones Left/Right (Out 6/7)). |

Thankyou so much to everyone.. esp Russ. U've been a great help!!
I guess this jus adds to my opinion that kX is very complex and doesn't make much sense to me! But doesn't matter now... its all right to go and record some music!! I'll have to try the Asio stuff once i've finished the current projects Thanks again |

its not that its complex perse, its just that its a new interface that you are not used too yet. I like to call it flexable
I recomend trying to become proficient with DSP use and setup. Then learn to code plugins if you cannot find something you need.

At some point you may want to update your ProFX to the latest version (depending on which version of kX you are using), as the newer version performs better (i.e. the VU meter in MX6, etc. uses less CPU), and supports more card models/features.
