Sound is distorted

hello, i have a plain old audigy 2 card with a mid-end 5.1 creative speaker set and i have used the KX drivers for years with little problem but now I have a problem: distorted sound.

Music and movies seem to be okay but combat sounds in and out of games sound very distorted as in they are not sounding right atall.

i tried moving card to another PCI slot and it dident worked.

I tried disabling acceleration featurea and that did the trick but is there a solution anyone knows to fix this problem without disabling acceleration?

thanks in advance.

What about lowering the volume?? maybe you changed the KX settings to overdrive the DAC hardware... ??

If that was too obvious...
You can try changing the windows default playback device (If set to Wave HQ - try Wave 0/1 - or vise versa if you have a Wave HQ device ; If set to Wave 0/1 - try wave 4/5.

Keep in mind Wave 0/1 (& Wave HQ IIRC) is what does multi-channel sound (refer to KX help file 'KX Routings guide)

While Wave 4/5, 6/7 & 8/9 - send output directly to the DAC hardware. So DirectSound 3-d wont work, but offers 'best latency'. Could fix distortion problems too maybe..?? Something to try none the less.

hello and thanks for your reply.

i opened up a file with lots of gunshots and explosions to test and while it was playing out I changed the default device to all of them one at a time and nothing changed at all. The gunshots sounded weak as did the explosions. Weak and sitorted.

Do I need to resstart each time I change a default device in order for the change to take effect?

As for DAC stuff. I do not know what that is and maybe my obession with tweakage may of accidently turned it off, lol. How do I turn it back on to see if it sorts the problem out?

thanks.
