Question
I have audigy 4 (non-pro). Which device should I select in the device selection menu when I install the new 3538j drivers?
Thanks in advance... |

I think most people use "kX 10k2 Audio ("3538") - Model SBxxxx".
You could probably also use "kX 10k2 Audio ("3538") - Generic". Another choice might be to edit 'kx.inf' and add it yourself, I *think* it is VEN_1102&DEV_0008&SUBSYS_10021102&REV_00. i.e. Maybe add it as DeviceDesc105 or something (although, again I am not sure about the PCI device string or the model number). %KX_EMU10KX.DeviceDesc105%=KX_EMU10KX, PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0008&SUBSYS_10021102&REV_00 KX_EMU10KX.DeviceDesc105="kX 10k2 Audio ("3538") - Model SB0610" |

The problem is that I can't record from line in. I plugged my guitar directly in the line in and followed directions in the faq for enabling the line in recording. I tried using guitar rig and I just hear some constant beeping sound instead of distorsion so there is obviously some conflict. I also tried several different programs (guitar fx box and revalver) and neither of them work. I tried all options for inputs and outputs, from ASIO to multimedia and direct sound support and neither of them worked. It seems that something is blocking my line-in signal with kx drivers and I can't record. I must admit that kx mixer with all its options is little confusing to me. I just understand that part about selecting the line-in in the AC97 and upping the volume of line in. All the other options are new for me and I don't know how to setup it. I just need recording via line in and that's all. PS. Sorry for my bad english |

For Guitar Rig, you would want to use ASIO.
Make sure that the sample rate is set to 48 kHz in Guitar Rig. It may give you an error but keep trying and it should take. To simplify things I would recommend downloading and installing ProFX 3.05 for 3538j: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/effects-dsp/70261-new-profx-3538-update-incl-mx6-ac97.html Then open the kX DSP Window. Unload 'prolog' and load ProFX : ADC. Select Line In as the Rec source in the ADC plugin's gui. Use the built in peak meter to verify that you can see a signal, and adjust the Rec gain to the appropriate value. Connect the ADC plugin to ASIO 0/1 of epilog (hold the mouse cursor over the pins to see their description). Then select kX ASIO 0/1 as the inputs/outputs in Guitar Rig and see if it works for you. ASIO 0/1 should be the 17th and 18th pins (from the top) of epilog.
I do not have Guitar Rig myself, so I cannot explain exactly, but you should have an Audio Setup option (menu item?): Under Sound Card: The Interface should be ASIO. The Sample Rate should be 48000. The Output Device should be kX ASIO. Under Routing: Ouputs: Guitar Rig Output 1 should be: 1: kX Out 00 Guitar Rig Output 2 should be: 2: kX Out 01 Inputs: Not sure what the options are there, but you should select kX ASIO 0/1 (or maybe kX In 00, and kX In 01). See these screen shots (from another user (but note that the sample rate is not set right in the picture)): http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4247/53je.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3856/68si.jpg I am not sure what you mean by input is low and output is high, and I am not sure what you mean by it will only show you ASIO option. Are you using a pre-amp of some kind, to bring the guitar signal up to line level, or did you connect it directly to Line In? Without some kind of pre-amp the signal will likely be low, and increasing the Rec Gain to compensate will likely introduce noise (raising the noise floor). You should really use some kind of pre-amp or DI box (see the following for a DIY pre-amp, courtesy of TravelRec: Cheap and easy to make LowNoise Guitar PreAmp). As for the level out of Guitar Rig, I am not sure what settings that program uses for that, but it would be a combination of settings within that program, and the volume level in kX, etc. Last edited by Russ; May 5, 2006 at 01:28 PM.
